Bulls forward Luol Deng is excited to get back on the court, and anxious to see how his mended right tibia feels once he does.
"I could say whatever I want to say, but until I'm on the floor I really don't know," Deng told the Chicago Tribune. "I'm going to go by how it feels. I'm going to try to do my best to do two practices a day. I think I'll be able to. I feel great. But if I feel anything early, I will try to monitor it."
Deng has been sidelined since Feb. 28 because of a stress fracture in his right tibia.
"One thing I do is I work very hard," he said. "I really don't take shortcuts. I felt like the past two years I had unfortunate injuries. There's nothing I could do about that. But I really worked hard this summer."
Bulls general manager Gar Forman told the press that the forward practically lived in the gym this offseason.
"Luol basically lived in this gym, almost to the point at times we felt we had to kick him out," Forman said. "I remember early in the summer, we were preparing for the draft. He had worked out in the morning in the weight room. Then he had a workout in the afternoon on the floor, doing some skill work. I go down to our kitchen about 6 p.m. and he's down there eating dinner.
"I said, 'Luol, what are you doing here?' He had put himself on a plan where rather than go home, he was bringing his dinner to the Berto Center, heating it up in our kitchen and then would get in another workout in the evening."
