The New Jersey Nets have requested waivers on forward Andre Brown, Nets General Manager Billy King announced today.  Brown was signed to the training camp roster on October 24.

The Nets roster now stands at 17.

Carmelo Anthony said nobody approached him about being traded to New Jersey and that he'd address playing for another team if and when the Nuggets want to trade him.

Anthony said he's content starting the season with the Nuggets and that his primary objective is to keep his options open for the 2011-2012 season.

"Not at all," Anthony said about anybody approaching him about being dealt to New Jersey and signing a contract extension with the Nets.

"I would love to," he said about being on Denver's roster on opening night.

"Not at all, why would I," he said about whether he'd have a problem starting the season as a Nugget.  "I?m keeping my options open."

"If [the Nuggets] come to me and say they want to trade me to a team, then we?ll discuss that when that time comes," Anthony said.

Denver is confident that the Nets will remain interested in acquiring Carmelo Anthony.

"The Nuggets firmly believe New Jersey will patiently wait with the basic offer of Favors and a 2012 first-round draft choice in return for Anthony," writes Mark Kiszla.  "Obtaining Anthony remains the best way Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, who recently purchased the Nets, can make a splash in the USA's No. 1 media market."

Whether Anthony would sign a long-term contract extension with New Jersey remains to be seen.  A source familiar with his thinking said Tuesday that Anthony is not 100 percent sold on playing for the Nets.

The Nets may have officially pulled back in their pursuit of Carmelo Anthony but that doesn't mean they will not continue to have discussions with Denver.

One unresolved question, however, is whether Anthony would accept a trade to New Jersey by signing a long-term contract extension with the Nets.

"I think he's thumbs-sideways on it," said one source with knowledge of Anthony's position. "He's not 100 percent sold on it."

While acknowledging that the specter of a new collective bargaining agreement is intimidating, Anthony seemed to indicate that any concern about salary will not dictate his decision-making.

"Money is money.  Money's going to be there," Anthony said. "It's about basketball."

"It's a big risk," Anthony said about the new CBA.  "At the end of the day, it's about basketball."

"It?s scary," he said about CBA negotiations.  "Of course, it's scary. There's a lot of anxiety to see what's going to happen."

The four-team blockbuster trade that would have landed Carmelo Anthony in New Jersey has died and the Nets have ended their pursuit of the superstar for the time being.

A source said the Nets "need some closure on the matter" and are pulling out of the chase for Anthony "at least for now."

It is well known that Carmelo Anthony would like to wind up with the Knicks or Bulls.  The Nuggets are high on Derrick Favors, so the Nets would seem to be their preferred trading partner.

What is still unknown -- and has been the subject of numerous conflicting reports -- is whether Anthony would accept a trade to New Jersey.  He can essentially exercise veto power over any trade simply by refusing to sign a contract extension with the team that seeks to acquire him.

On Monday, Anthony sounded as if he was content playing out the season and becoming a free agent next summer.

"Right now, I'm leaving my options open," he said. "At the end of the season, I'll sit down with my team, sit down with the Nuggets, we'll discuss it and go from there. Right now, I'm not really too focused on that."

One of the hang-ups for the potential four-team trade that would send Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey is that the deal would be too expensive for the Nuggets.

The trade would require Denver to take on an additional $4.8 million of salary.  Since the team is over the luxury tax, the Nuggets would pay $9.6 million in extra cost.

"Stan Kroenke is not going to pay that much money to take a step backwards," a source said. "They'll have to find a way for Denver to take on less money for that deal to happen."

With their four-team deal all but dead, Denver and New Jersey were trying to line up new scenarios that still would result with Anthony in New Jersey and Derrick Favors and Nets draft picks in Denver in exchange for Carmelo Anthony, sources said.

Working with Denver has been difficult for rival teams because the power structure is unclear.

Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor indicated that the time has passed to complete the four-team blockbuster trade discussed last week, which would have landed Carmelo Anthony in New Jersey.

"If you're going to make that trade, it would've been done Friday," O'Connor told the media Monday.

O'Connor said the other teams, not the Jazz, were driving the trade talks which "got ahead of themselves."
