"As we look at the draft, we think we can get a good player at 18," Grunfeld added. "It's a deep draft."

Grunfeld Aims To Keep Arenas, Jamison

May 9, 2008 6:17 AM

The day after Gilbert Arenas announced via his blog that he will not return to Washington without teammate Antawn Jamison, team President Ernie Grunfeld told reporters that he and Arenas were on the same page, the Washington Post is reporting.

"It's good because we're on the same page because we want to sign Antawn, and we want to sign Gilbert," Grunfeld said. "I kind of like that he's supportive of his teammate; he's supportive of Antawn, and that's been our plan all along. So, I'm glad to see everybody in the organization on the same page."

Arenas Says He Won't Return If Jamison Doesn't

May 8, 2008 4:44 AM

No Antawn Jamison, no Gilbert Arenas.

That is the ultimatum that Arenas has given the Washington Wizards, according to the Associated Press.

"If he doesn't come back, I'm not coming back," Arenas said Wednesday in a posting on his blog.

Jamison is a free agent and Arenas can opt out of his contract, and the duo have been teammates in Washington for the past four seasons following the pair playing together in Golden State for two seasons before Arenas left via free agency.

"I want to be back in Washington, but weird things happen in free agency," Arenas said on the blog. "If Antawn is not back, then there's no point in me coming back because he's part of my success, too."

Wizards' President Ernie Grunfeld has already assured at least one member of the team that the club plans to re-sign free agents Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison this summer, according to the Washington Post.

Caron Butler, the only member of the 'Big Three' under contract, also seemed to believe that the core would stick together after completing his exit interview with the team on Sunday.

Wizards Wonder What Might Have Been

May 3, 2008 7:21 PM

Once again the Washington Wizards are wondering what might have been after another playoff exit at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to the Associated Press.

"Who knows what happens if we have a healthy team?" Antonio Daniels said.

"If we was whole, who knows what would have happened?" Caron Butler added.

"We haven't been able to see what we would be like if we were healthy for a long period of time," said Brendan Haywood.

Washington will have to decide whether to keep the Big Three of Butler, Antawn Jamison, and Gilbert Arenas together over the long-term or break up the All-Star trio.

"I'm the only one of the Big Three that has a contract," Butler said. "But that's no guarantee to be back next year. Anything can happen. But I've got faith in this organization, and I strongly feel that we'll stay intact."

"I'm not going to try anything stupid this summer," Arenas said Friday before the Wizards were eliminated at the hands of the Cavaliers.

"I'm going to take my time and prepare for next season. I'm going to be smart about it this year. I'm going to have five or six months to get this thing strong again and ready to go again."

Cleveland Closes Out Washington

May 2, 2008 10:39 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers closed out their first round series against the Washington Wizards with a 105-88 win at the Verizon Center on Friday night.

LeBron James posted 27 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists and Wally Szczerbiak added 26 points for the Cavaliers, who shot 49% on the night and outrebounded Washington by three.

Cleveland entered the second period down four, but used a 52-33 advantage over the second and third quarters to steal the game and clinch the series.

Antawn Jamison led with 23 points and 15 rebounds and Brendon Haywood tallied 13 points and 10 boards for the Wizards, who shot just 39% from the floor and turned the ball over three more times than Cleveland.

Washington attempted nine more foul shots than Cleveland, but were just 5-for-21 from beyond the three-point line.

Worried about the possibility of heading home for a pivotal Game Seven this weekend, James quite simply put the Cavaliers on his back and willed them to victory.

Cleveland will face the winner of the Boston/Atlanta series in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Cavs Playing With Sense Of Urgency

May 2, 2008 4:15 PM

Cleveland missed out on an opportunity to close out the Wizards on their home floor earlier this week and claim they will be playing with a sense of urgency in Washington on Friday night, according to HoopsWorld.

"We didn't play with a sense of urgency we needed to play with," Coach Mike Brown said Thursday of the team's loss to the Wizards in Game Five.

"You could tell our sense of urgency wasn't there. It's disappointing, but you have to give Washington credit too because they came and had their backs against the wall. They scrapped, they clawed, and they continued to try and get a win. The reality is there is nothing we can do about it. We lost the game," Brown added.

"As long as I'm on the floor and I'm out there, we've got a good chance to win," LeBron James said moments after the loss on Wednesday night.

"Matter of fact, we have a great chance to win."
