Ted Leonsis Calls Sports Betting 'The Most Important New Business' For NBA

Feb 16, 2019 6:37 PM

Ted Leonsis and Vivek Ranadive have been vocal about the potential benefits that sports betting could provide the NBA, with Leonsis calling it "the most important new business" for the league.

"Right now, the people who go to casinos to gamble, it's a small community and it generates $8-10 billion a year in revenues and play. But there's probably $100 billion that's in the shadows by really sophisticated gamblers. And obviously the first step is we want to get that audience that's gaming illegally to come into the sunlight," said Leonsis.

The two have focused on real-time betting during games, which they call "predictive gaming". The Wizards have experimented with an alternate feed of Wizards games showing updated, real-time odds.

The Kings will introduce a lounge this season where premium seatholders can place bets on the score or player performance for virtual credit.

"The arena is the game console. And your phone is the controller for the game console. So we're only limited by our imagination," says Ranadive.

Knicks Also Pursued Marvin Bagley In Kristaps Porzingis Trade

Feb 13, 2019 9:28 AM

The New York Knicks attempted to engage the Sacramento Kings on a trade for Marvin Bagley III in addition to De'Aaron Fox as they gauged the market for Kristaps Porzingis.

The Kings were not interested in discussing a deal involving Bagley for Porzingis.

The Knicks ultimately traded Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks in a package that included Dennis Smith Jr.

Bagley was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, selected ahead of Luka Doncic.

De'Aaron Fox Met With Vlade Divac After Sacramento's Deadline Activity

Feb 12, 2019 11:33 AM

De'Aaron Fox sat down with Vlade Divac after the Sacramento Kings made a series of move that led to the exits of Iman Shumpert, Justin Jackson, Ben McLemore and Skal Labissiere.

“When it happened right before the game, there was a little sting,” Fox told NBC Sports California on Sunday afternoon as he prepared to take on the Phoenix Suns. “It was kind of unexpected but not too unexpected. I think it was good for the team, and I do trust what Vlade’s doing. Since I’ve been here, it’s all positive things and great things. I think we’re still stepping in the right direction.”

Divac said his door is always open.

“Personally, I love it, not just De’Aaron, everybody -- how they react,” Divac said. “It shows to me that everyone has a heart. The emotions are there. I love it.”

Fox was able to clear his head with the conversation with Divac.

“Just the direction that we’re trying to get the team to go,” Fox said. “We do feel like we got better after the trades. We’re just working on chemistry after the trade, and ultimately, trying to make the playoffs with such a young team.”

Kings Acquire Harrison Barnes From Mavericks

Feb 6, 2019 10:21 PM

The Sacramento Kings have agreed to acquire Harrison Barnes from the Dallas Mavericks for Justin Jackson and Zach Randolph.

The Kings will no longer have max cap space this offseason assuming he exercises his $25 million player option for 19-20. Sacramento wants to keep Barnes long-term. Dallas, meanwhile, will be able to reenter the 2019 offseason with cap space after taking on the contracts of Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee last week.

Barnes was sitting on the bench with the Mavericks when news of the trade broke.

Barnes signed a four-year, $94 million deal with the Mavericks in the 2016 offseason after the Golden State Warriors agreed to sign Kevin Durant.
