Jonathan Isaac Set To Return For Magic On Monday

Jan 22, 2023 1:23 PM

Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac last played in an NBA game on August 2nd, 2020 in the bubble at Walt Disney World. That day, Isaac tore the ACL in his left knee. After a year-plus of rehab, Isaac suffered a setback with a serious hamstring injury.

Those two injuries have cost Isaac the last two full NBA seasons and over half of this season. Now, two-and-a-half years after his initial injury, the Magic expect Isaac to return to the NBA court on Monday vs the Boston Celtics.

Isaac recently appeared in three games for the Lakeland Magic of the G League. Isaac was productive, by scoring 15.7 points in 17.7 minutes per game. More importantly, Isaac looked good physically and made it out of the three contests with no physical issues.

Suns, Magic Potential Suitors For Fred VanVleet In Free Agency

Jan 17, 2023 10:45 AM

Fred VanVleet has refused to address his contract status with the Toronto Raptors beyond saying “I’m completely focused on his team. My loyalty is to this team and to this franchise and trying to get us back to the level that we’re accustomed to around here.” However, with a player option for next season, VanVleet's potential pending free agency will remain a source of speculation.

The Phoenix Suns and Orlando Magic have emerged as potential teams that could pursue the veteran point guard in free agency. Orlando is expected to have north of $30 million in cap space this offseason. Phoenix would likely have to work a sign-and-trade or a deal where VanVleet opts in and is traded.

VanVleet projects to be one of the better free agents available, and one of the better point guard options. The soon-to-be 29-year-old signed a four-year, $83 million deal to remain with Toronto in 2020. VanVleet's option for next season is worth $22.8 million, but he's expected to opt out for a long-term deal as he heads into his early-30s.

Jonathan Isaac Plays First Official Game Since 2020

Jan 12, 2023 9:13 AM

Jonathan Isaac admitted he was tired after his first real game in two-and-a-half years. But Isaac also wanted to make sure everyone knew he could still play, after playing 14 minutes for the Lakeland Magic of the G League.

“I definitely can still hoop, but it’s going to take me a little time to get my legs under me,” Isaac said. “Going through those 3-4-minute bouts got me tired. I just want to keep pushing my conditioning and get to the place I feel really comfortable.”

Isaac scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds in Lakeland's victory over the Westchester Knicks. This was his first official action since suffering multiple knee injuries on August 2, 2020 while playing in the NBA bubble at Walt Disney World.

Jonathan Isaac Still Has No Timetable For Return

Jan 4, 2023 10:15 PM

Jonathan Isaac fully participated in a pair of practices with the Orlando Magic this week, but there is no timetable for when he will return to game action.

Isaac hasn't played since August of 2020.

Isaac played five-on-five against other basketball players for the first time since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Dec. 6th.

But Isaac said Monday was his first time playing five-on-five with his Orlando teammates as part of a practice.

“Definitely a hurdle that was just like relief,” Isaac added after Wednesday morning’s shootaround. “As practice was coming to a close I’m just like ‘yes’. I took another step forward and want to keep doing that.”

Isaac had just recovered from a major left knee injury in January 2020 before tearing a ligament during the league’s restart.
