Giannis Antetkounmpo Will Avoid Questions On Supermax Extension

Sep 30, 2019 4:24 PM

Giannis Antetkounmpo will become eligible for a supermax contract extension next offseason, which will be a crossroads for both his career individually and the Milwaukee Bucks as a franchise.

Antetkounmpo vows to wait until the 2020 offseason to address

"I’m not going to talk about it a lot this season and I’m not going to try to address it,” said Antetkounmpo.

The Bucks have already said they will offer Antetkounmpo the supermax and they subsequently received a fine by the NBA.

"I feel like if you have a great team, and our goal is to win a championship and be the last team standing and get better each day, I think it's disrespectful towards my teammates talking about my free agency and what I'm going through," Antetokounmpo said. "So, when the time is right, we're all gonna talk about it. I don't think the time is right."

Giannis Antetokounmpo: 'I Want To Shoot The Three'

Sep 22, 2019 1:58 AM

Giannis Antetokounmpo discussed his desire to eventually add a three-point shot to his offensive arsenal, though he added that he could win an NBA title without shooting threes.

“I can still win the championship not shooting the three, but I want to shoot the three. I shot the three a little bit better this year, as the season went along I was getting better. Shooting the three is gonna make it a lot easier for my game and a lot easier for my teammates, so I gotta add that element to my game," Antetokounmpo told the Bucks.

Antetokounmpo shot 25.6% on 2.8 attempts from three during the regular season last year. That number increased to 32.7% during the playoffs.

Jon Horst said last week that the Bucks will offer Antetokounmpo a max extension when he becomes eligible next summer. Antetokounmpo is currently signed through 2021.

Bucks Not Concerned By Warriors' Possible Pursuit Of Giannis Antetokounmpo

Sep 19, 2019 8:40 PM

The Golden State Warriors have been linked with a pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that is not something the Milwaukee Bucks are concerned about at this time.

“Keeping Giannis, it’s a focus obviously,” one Bucks front-office source told Heavy.com. “But fighting the Warriors is not a focus. The Warriors are not the concern in the least. They’d have a long way to go to get him to Golden State, they’d have to give away a lot. He has never given any indication that he wants to leave Milwaukee. So a lot of that stuff, it is more chatter than anything.”

The Bucks plan on offering Antetokounmpo a supermax contract next offseason.

Antetokounmpo can't become a free agent until 2021 and the Warriors would have to trade Klay Thompson and one of either Draymond Green or D'Angelo Russell to create enough cap space to sign him.

Shelburne: Warriors Have Always Been Big Threat To Pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo

Sep 18, 2019 12:15 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks plan on offering Giannis Antetokounmpo a supermax contract next offseason. Antetokounmpo could become a free agent in 2021 if he doesn't sign the supermax.

"The Warriors have always been a big threat to go after Giannis," said Ramona Shelburne on The Jump. "One, he's friends with Steph Curry. He has that same agency. It would be a difficult construction to make happen, but that is that one looming threat. And it comes down to what kind of guy is Giannis. What does he want his legacy to be? Is he the guy that stays with one team his entire career and tries to bring a championship Milwaukee, or does he pull a Kevin Durant and go join a group of super friends?"

The Warriors would almost certainly need to make a trade to acquire Antetokounmpo as they don't project to have max cap space in 2021.

Jon Horst: Bucks Will Offer Giannis Antetokounmpo A Supermax Extension A Year From Now

Sep 14, 2019 3:50 PM

Jon Horst addressed the contract situation surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo, saying that the Milwaukee Bucks will offer the league MVP a supermax extension when he becomes eligible in a year.

“The answer for now is that we can’t negotiate anything. So Giannis, basically a year from now will be eligible for a supermax extension. At that time, of course, he will be offered a supermax extension," Horst told Fox Wisconsin.

Antetokounmpo previously said that a potential run to the NBA Finals this upcoming season could be the deciding factor in whether he re-signs with the team.

City Of Milwaukee Offers $400,000 Settlement To Sterling Brown

Sep 5, 2019 10:42 AM

The city of Milwaukee offered Sterling Brown $400,000 to settle his lawsuit accusing police of using excessive force.

The incident occurred in January 2018 as Brown received a ticket for illegally parking in a disabled spot at Walgreen's. The situation escalated as police took Brown to the ground and used a stun gun after he failed to remove his hands from his pockets as ordered.

Brown's attorney said that the city's offer was insufficient because it didn't include an admission of guilt, and that any settlement would have to include a similar admission.
