Jimmy Butler Has 'Soft-Tissue' Injury In Shoulder, No MRI Currently Scheduled

Aug 25, 2020 1:41 AM

Jimmy Butler is dealing with a soft-tissue injury in his left shoulder, revealed Erik Spoelstra after the Miami Heat completed their sweep of the Indiana Pacers.

Butler finished with six points in 23 minutes.

There is currently no MRI scheduled for his shoulder.

"It was hurting before the game, but as I was warming up, I was like maybe it will loosen up and maybe I'll be able to play at 100 percent or whatever it was. It wasn't the case. [I] went to the back, did a little bit of work, and then we decided, 'You know what? We're going to go out there and we're going to just lock in on defense.' I think I did that, played hard and affected the game besides scoring on the offensive end," said Butler after the game.

Erik Spoelstra said that Butler's shoulder just needs rest.

"What he needs more than anything is rest, and then he'll start to work his way back into it. I asked him if he's like Wolverine, if he heals like that. I have seen some other injuries that looked more significant, not than this, just they look like they're tough injuries, and he comes back the next day and he's ready to go," said Spoelstra.

The Heat play the winner of the Bucks-Magic series.

Sixers Would Have Offered Jimmy Butler Max Contract Last Summer If He Didn't Meet With Other Teams

Aug 23, 2020 8:10 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers were ready to offer Jimmy Butler a max contract last summer if he agreed to not meet with any other teams, league sources told Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.

Butler, who was reportedly "lukewarm" on re-signing with the Sixers, did not agree to the stipulation before signing with the Heat.

Butler rubbed Sixers teammates and Brett Brown the wrong way with his outspoken leadership style during his time in Philadelphia.

Butler once sent Ben Simmons playing instructions before a Nets game on a team group chat, which Simmons took issue with.

Brown is expected to part ways with the Sixers "in the coming days," according to Yahoo! Sports.

Nate McMillan Says '52 Free Throws Is Ridiculous' After Game 3 Loss

Aug 22, 2020 11:33 PM

Nate McMillan highlighted the disparity in free throw attempts following the Indiana Pacers' 124-115 loss to the Miami Heat in game 3.

The Pacers, who lost the free throw battle 52-28, are down 3-0 in the series.

Jimmy Butler had 20 free throw attempts in the game.

"I can't explain that. I mean, 52 free throws is ridiculous. They had 24 at the half, Butler shoots 20 of them ... this is the playoffs, and I thought some of those calls were ... I can't explain it," said McMillan after the game.

Malcolm Brogdon also observed the discrepancy, but added that he didn't "know if that's a mix of the refs, us not being aggressive enough, whatever."

Erik Spoelstra said that his team were earning the free throw by their aggression.

"In a playoff game, to be able to have 20 free throw attempts [from Jimmy] -- and those were all collisions. It's not as if he's flopping his way to the line. He's putting his body in there and drawing contact and making you have to make the call."

Jimmy Butler Calls Rivalry With T.J. Warren 'Dead'

Aug 17, 2020 3:10 PM

Jimmy Butler is ready to put his rivalry with T.J. Warren behind him as the Miami Heat prepare to play the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs.

"Look, I just play basketball," Butler said during a video call with reporters after Sunday's practice. "I'm going to go out there and be the best player on the floor. That's what Miami has me here to do. I'm not worried about nobody's matchup, man. We can kill that. That's dead, that's something that'll pass. Everybody wants to make a story out of it, but my job isn't against T.J. Warren, it's against the Indiana Pacers, and my job is to help the Miami Heat beat the Indiana Pacers."

Butler and Warren exchanged words and had to be separated during a Jan. 8 game.

"Now's the time to play your best basketball," Butler said. "To do whatever it takes to make sure that your team can win. I know that myself, I know that my teammates, the coaches, this organization, know that I'm capable of making that, so now it's just me going out there and doing just that and helping this team win some games."
