NBA Asked Clippers In Offseason To Share Kawhi Leonard's Load Management Plan

Nov 26, 2019 11:19 AM

The NBA attempted to intervene with the Los Angeles Clippers over the offseason by inquiring whether they had a general road map for how Kawhi Leonard might be managed in terms of his rest.

The Clippers replied that they could not provide one to the NBA at that point.

Leonard's rest was closely managed by the Toronto Raptors and it resulted in a title. The Clippers are attempting to use a similar model as Leonard is known to have extending his career as one of his top priorities.

Russell Westbrook's younger brother was escorted out of Staples Center following a verbal confrontation with Montrezl Harrell, reported Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.

The incident took place following the Clippers' 122-119 win over the Rockets. Raynard Westbrook was escorted out of the arena after he stepped onto the court to continue a verbal altercation with Harrell.

“He rushed the court. He was in clear violation," a security official told Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.

Harrell finished the game with 18 points and 7 rebounds.

“I ride for my team and my city. All I care about is who’s on my team. And we won. That’s all that matters.”

Doc Rivers: We Need A Lot Of Work

Nov 21, 2019 12:23 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers won the first game in which they had Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in the lineup together, but it was a slog of a game.

Leonard and George had only shared the court for one full-contact practice together when they were on opposing teams.

Leonard and George ran zero pick-and-rolls or dribble-handoff plays together.

"We need a lot of work, you can see that," Doc Rivers said. "We were trying to get the ball to guys instead of trying to score."

Paul George Had Interest In Trade To Spurs In 2017

Nov 20, 2019 10:55 AM

While the Los Angeles Lakers were believed to be Paul George's preferred destination when he requested a trade from the Indiana Pacers in 2017, the San Antonio Spurs were also on his list.

"I wanted to be traded to San Antonio," George said. "We wanted to go to San Antonio first, and we didn't make that happen."

A source confirmed the Spurs and Pacers held discussions, but San Antonio lacked the assets necessary to acquire George.

The Lakers decided not to deal the second overall pick in 2017 and Brandon Ingram for George as they believed they could eventually sign him in free agency.

George was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, re-signed with the franchise in 2018 and was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019.

"As far as the Lakers, I wanted to go to L.A.," George said. "They didn't make that happen. They didn't put nothing together. So that's in the back of my mind [when I became a free agent]. That was in the back of my mind."

George and Leonard still wanted to play together.

"Since that moment, we were trying to pair up with one another," George said. "We were trying to make it work. [After being traded to Oklahoma City] I had obligations that I wanted to come back to Oklahoma and give it another shot... And then I felt that I needed to move on, I needed to go in another direction and I needed to at that point do what I wanted to do my whole career."

Paul George After 37-Point Game: Shoulders 'Haven't Been This Healthy In A Long Time'

Nov 17, 2019 12:48 PM

Paul George said that this was the healthiest he's felt in a long time following the Los Angeles Clippers' 150-101 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

George scored 37 points in 20 minutes.

"I got [a] new shoulder. I can't say nothing else to that: I got new shoulders. And they haven't been this healthy in a long time," said George after the game.

George added that he could have hit 50 in the game.

"It could have been my first 50 [-point game]. That's just how I felt, but ... I'm a confident player. It wasn't more so a confidence [thing] by me saying I'm back. It's just a statement. I'm just happy to be back to this game," he added.

Kawhi Leonard Misses Second Straight Game Due To Left Knee Contusion

Nov 17, 2019 3:05 AM

Kawhi Leonard missed the Los Angeles Clippers' game against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night due to a contusion in his left knee.

Leonard, who has missed two games in a row after suffering the injury on Wednesday, is day-to-day.

Doc Rivers said he was eager to develop chemistry within his team.

"There's no way we can have continuity right now. We've had one live practice with Pat, Kawhi, Sham, Paul George on the floor. One. This season. I'm talking training camp as well. So you're not going to have any continuity right now," said Rivers.

Paul George On 33-Point Season Debut: 'I Thought I Was Terrible'

Nov 15, 2019 2:45 AM

Paul George said he had difficulty adjusting to the speed of the game following the Los Angeles Clippers' 132-127 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

George finished the game with 33 points and 9 rebounds in 24 minutes.

"I thought I was terrible. I got a lot to get back to just from my performance on defense. Just for the flow of the game. I just haven't had the time. Getting a feel for the speed. This was essentially my first preseason game. It's a lot to take from this, and take it into the next one," said George.

George also had 3 turnovers in "clutch time," according to ESPN. The turnovers came when guarded by Jrue Holiday.

Doc Rivers was encouraged by George's versatility on offense.

"What I like about him, just from one day of coaching him, he's not only a catch-and-shoot guy, he's a dribble guy. He's also a post player. He did all three phases of the game offensively," said Rivers.
