Elton Brand Cleared To Play

Mar 30, 2008 9:44 AM

Elton Brand has been cleared to play, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

The only reason he hasn't already taken the floor is that he hasn't gotten enough practice time to get back in the flow of an NBA game.

"We're looking at the last six to eight games. We're trying to gauge it. But we'll have a better feel for it on Monday," said Brand.

"If I'm healthy, I want to play," Brand said. "It's not in my protocol to shut it down."

Brand Could Return For Final Five Or Six Games

Mar 25, 2008 5:24 AM

Elton Brand joined his Clipper teammates in a full scrimmage on Monday, marking the first time the former All-Star forward has done that since rupturing his Achilles' tendon last summer, the L.A. Times are reporting.

The Times are also reporting that Brand may be in uniform for the final five or six games, according to head coach Mike Dunleavy.

"If we can get him then, it'll be great. If we can't, we'll see what we can get," Dunleavy said.

"More conditioning needs to be done for sure, but it's a good first step. It's the first time he's been up and down at all, as far as banging with contact. All the drill work looks good, running up and down with nobody hitting you. Now it's being able to get to the point to really compete."

Is Thornton Making Maggette Expendable?

Mar 21, 2008 4:37 PM

With Corey Maggette heading into free agency this summer, the Clippers are very happy to be enjoying tremendous production from rookie Al Thornton, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"I think the main thing is that I am feeling good out there," Thornton said. "I am able to slow down and read plays. I'm not in as big of a rush as I was in the early part of the year. My teammates trust me and Coach [Mike Dunleavy] puts me in good situations."

"He's got a lot to learn," Dunleavy said. "He's doing like he should. A notch here. Down a little bit. A notch here. He's growing. He's growing all the time. He's an explosive scorer. When he's going good, he's a tough guy to stop for anybody."

Brand Unsure About Return This Season

Mar 19, 2008 10:00 AM

Elton Brand isn't sure about his return to the court for the Clippers this season, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"It's tough because the end of the season's not really conducive to full-court practice," Brand said. "You want to go over the other team's plays and things like that, but we really don't have five-on-five settings as much as I would like to, so we'll see."

"It will be a disappointment just because it's official games, but as soon as guys are ready I'll be playing five-on-five anyways," Brand added.

Brand: 'I'm Not A Quitter'

Mar 10, 2008 9:15 AM

Elton Brand insists that he's more worried about returning to full health for the Clippers next season than showcasing his talents for potential trade suitors, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

"People can look at it like that, but I've pretty much established myself in the league," he said. "I don't know how the off-season works, but I'm sure [other teams] could see me somehow without playing and have enough confidence in my ability that I can still play. So I don't think I need to come back to showcase myself to other teams."

"I'm not one to just up and leave a situation," he said. "I'm not a quitter. I owe it to the fans. I owe it to Coach [Mike Dunleavy]. He's out there coaching every single play."
