Maggette Cleared For Full-Contact Practice

Feb 28, 2006 3:03 PM

Clippers swingman Corey Maggette has been cleared by team physician Dr. Tony Daly to resume full-contact practice with the team following an examination this morning. No timetable has been set for Maggette?s return to game action.

Maggette, who is averaging 21.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in 13 games this season, has missed the last 38 games after separating a ligament in his left foot during the Clippers December 5 victory over the Miami Heat at STAPLES Center. His foot was placed in a cast following the injury and was removed in Los Angeles on January 31. Maggette, who has been rehabilitating the injury during the month of February, is officially listed as day-to-day.

Clippers center Chris Kaman, who missed his first game of the season with a sprained left ankle in last night?s victory over Charlotte at STAPLES Center, is also listed as day-to-day. In 54 games this season, Kaman is averaging career-highs of 11.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

Kings To Anaheim?

Feb 26, 2006 11:20 AM

Having their bid for a new arena rejected more than once by Sacramento voters, Kings owners Gavin and Joe Maloof have quietly let it be known that they'd like to relocate to Anaheim.

In Orange County, the Maloofs would be closer to their operations in Las Vegas. They already have plans to use an Anaheim location to drive their marketing for their hotel and casino, The Palms. That includes giving high-rollers use of luxury suites for Kings games and also having plenty of signage in the arena for their Vegas enterprises.

The Maloofs can easily afford the franchise transfer fee, which experts say will be at least double the $30 million the Hornets paid the league to flee Charlotte for New Orleans. But the Maloofs will face strong opposition from the Lakers and Clippers, who will fight a third team entering what they consider their backyard.

Mavs Could Look To Cassell If Terry Bolts Via Free Agency

Feb 22, 2006 1:34 PM

If the Mavericks fail to re-sign Jason Terry, who can become an unrestricted free agent July 1, they could logically replace him with Sam Cassell.

The starting point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers, Cassell also becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1. And it's no guarantee that he'll stay in LA or that Terry will remain with the Mavs.

"I'd like to stay in LA, but who knows," Cassell said Tuesday. "I'm playing basketball, and I feel good."

Clippers Likely To Sign Vin Baker

Feb 20, 2006 4:03 AM

Looking for help in unusual places, the Clippers are expected to sign Vin Baker, the fallen four-time All-Star, out of retirement.

The 6-foot-10 Baker made the All-Star game in his second, third and fourth seasons with Milwaukee from 1995 to 1997, and his first in Seattle in 1998, before his career went off a cliff.

He finally acknowledged a drinking problem as he was shuffled to the Boston Celtics, then the New York Knicks and finally the Houston Rockets in his last three seasons, posting single-figure scoring averages in all of them.

He played in 27 games last season with the Knicks and Rockets, averaging 1.3 points.

Wilcox Responds To Criticism

Feb 16, 2006 4:40 AM

Happy to leave a deteriorating situation with the Clippers, Chris Wilcox joined the Sonics here Wednesday, eager to prove he can finally live up to the potential that made him the No. 8 overall pick in the 2002 draft.

But Wilcox, traded for Vladimir Radmanovic on Tuesday, left a mixed impression on at least one former teammate ? Elton Brand, who started ahead of him. Brand told The Long Beach Telegram on Tuesday that the 6-foot-10 Wilcox didn't always put in the effort he could have.

"He gave his best at times, but maybe not all the time," Brand was quoted as saying. "He did work hard, and I've seen him work hard in practice and do things that were unbelievable with his athleticism. I just hope he gets a chance to express that to the rest of the NBA."

"People are going to say what they want to say because I'm not playing," Wilcox said. "If they came to practice, they'd see I work hard every day. If they don't see that, it's on them."

When told the criticism came from Brand, who saw him every day, Wilcox said, "OK, I'm not there any more. They'll see me here, in Seattle."

Clippers Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor announced today that the team has acquired forward Vladimir Radmanovic from the Seattle SuperSonics in exchange for forward Chris Wilcox.

?Vladimir gives us versatility and he fits very well into our system,? Baylor said. ?He?s agile and he runs the floor well. We see him playing multiple positions and his outside shooting will stretch the defense and be a big positive for our inside players.?

Radmanovic, in his fifth NBA season, has career averages of 10.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. The 6?10? Radmanovic is averaging 9.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 23.2 minutes per game this season. He set a new career-high with 30 points at New York on January 8, 2006 and is shooting a career-best .887 from the free throw line this season.

No Extension Talks For Dunleavy Yet

Feb 13, 2006 8:30 AM

The Clippers' best start in team history coincides with this being the last year of Mike Dunleavy's three-year contract. The team holds a club option for next year, which is expected to be picked up. However, no serious extension talks have transpired yet between the team and Dunleavy's agent Warren LeGarie.

"I'm not worried about that at this point,'' Dunleavy said.

Joe Safety, the Clippers' vice president of communications said, "Right now we're all on the same page and everyone is focused on the task at hand.''

Pierce's Name Keeps Coming Up In Clipper-Land

Feb 12, 2006 4:47 AM

Of the various teams attached to Paul Pierce?s name during the most recent trade rumor season, the Los Angeles Clippers seemed to be one that repeatedly bubbled to the top.

If only there was actually some substance to this talk, according to the two players who have made the Clippers a truly feared team this season.

?Any team would like to have Paul Pierce,? said Sam Cassell, the much-traveled guard who has brought a spark to the historically moribund franchise. ?I wouldn?t be upset of getting him (in a trade).

?He?s a great go-to-guy,? he said. ?Paul?s a helluva player.?

Though the Clippers wouldn?t dare make the move now, at one point two years ago a Pierce-for-Elton Brand swap had actually been discussed (both players are even a salary match).
