Dunleavy Says Deal Not Yet Done

Nov 29, 2006 10:34 AM

Media reports indicated that Mike Dunleavy had agreed to a four-year extension with the Los Angeles Clippers, but according to him the reports were premature.

"We've been talking and talks have been seemingly positive, but I don't have a deal," Dunleavy said. "I haven't signed a deal yet so there's nothing more I can really say?.

"Unless there's a dramatic falloff, I think something will get done."

Clippers, Dunleavy Agree To Four-Year Deal

Nov 27, 2006 9:34 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers have reached agreement with Mike Dunleavy on a four-year contract extension for more than $21 million, the L.A. Times is reporting.

Andy Roeser, Clippers executive vice president, and Dunleavy's agent, Warren LeGarie, late last week finalized the framework of a package that will pay Dunleavy more than $5.3 million a season, multiple team sources said Monday. The Clippers have not announced the agreement because Roeser and LeGarie were still negotiating bonuses for Dunleavy tied to the team's future playoff performances.

Dunleavy was in Sacramento with the Clippers on Monday preparing for the final game of a road trip Tuesday against the Kings. Asked about his new contract, Dunleavy said he had hoped "something could be worked out because this is where I want to be, which is what I've said all along."

Scouts: Brand Lacking Spark Of Last Season

Nov 7, 2006 10:58 PM

Last season, Elton Brand averaged 24.7 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots per game, but he has began the 2006-2007 season sluggish, according to scouts.

"I told him that we know he's got great work ethic," Mike Dunleavy said. "Nobody is going to question his toughness or anything about him based on what he's done.

"He just needs to understand that the most valuable thing he could do for us is give us himself as close to 100% on the floor at all times. That's the main thing."

Maggette Agrees To Come Off The Bench For Clippers

Nov 6, 2006 5:29 AM

Clippers forward Corey Maggette volunteered on Sunday to come off the bench for the remainder of the season, the L.A. Times is reporting.

The morning after his 23-point, 12-rebound performance in a victory over the Phoenix Suns, Maggette surprised Coach Mike Dunleavy in a private meeting during practice, saying he thought the move would be in the best interest of the team.

Maggette previously expressed reservations about accepting a reserve role, but he told Dunleavy his thinking had changed. Dunleavy eagerly accepted Maggette's offer and committed to giving the seven-year veteran a prominent role in the offense.

Maggette has been frustrated with his standing on the team, many in the organization said, but his acceptance could help things improve.

"It's about winning, it's about the team, so I told him to let's just do this," Maggette said of his conversation with Dunleavy. "It's not about the coach and our personal whatever we're going through, it's about my teammates and wanting to help them out. It's just better for the team this way."

Maggette Not Heading To Denver Anytime Soon

Nov 4, 2006 1:03 PM

On Friday, Elgin Baylor, the Clippers' vice president of basketball operations, emphatically denied there is any deal in the works that would involve trading Corey Maggette to Denver.

"It's absolutely bogus. It's erroneous. I don't know where it came from," said Baylor, responding to reports that first surfaced Sunday in the Denver Post. "It did not come from me, and it didn't come from (Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy). No one in this organization has talked to anyone from Denver, about a trade for Maggette."

He did acknowledge that a trade involving the Nuggets and Maggette was discussed two months ago, but that the talks went nowhere.
