Nuggets Opt For Continuity At Trade Deadline

Feb 21, 2013 9:50 PM

The Denver Nuggets opted for continuity at the NBA trade deadline.

“I know last two years, we've been accustomed to being the team that's always in there (making deals),” Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri said. “We're the third-youngest team in the NBA. We feel like these guys are growing. We feel like from the beginning of the season to now, we've made some progress.

“We're excited for this last part of the season. We'll go from there and deal with other issues in the summer.”

George Karl identified shooting as a void.

The Nuggets are tied for sixth in offensive efficiency, yet they rank last in free-throw shooting percentage (68.8) and 25th in three-point accuracy (34.4).

“I don't think there's any question that shooting the ball is something that we have to examine somewhere along the way,” Karl said. “A lot of the formulas we study say if we shot the ball better, we'd be tremendously efficient.”

Nuggets Reject First Round Pick, Roy Offer From Wolves For Mozgov

Feb 19, 2013 10:28 PM

The Denver Nuggets rejected an offer of Brandon Roy and a first round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Timofey Mozgov, according to sources.

The Nuggets are motivated to trade Mozgov, who will be a restricted free agent this offseason and is unlikely to be retained.

Minnesota wants to include Roy in a trade because he is not expected to play again and his 13-14 contract is non-guaranteed.

Faried Becomes First NBA Player To Join Group Fighting Homophobia In Sports

Feb 13, 2013 1:13 PM

Kenneth Faried has become the first NBA player to join Athlete Ally, an organization that fights homophobia in sports.

Faried was raised by a lesbian couple in New Jersey.

“I have two moms and I love them both very much,” Faried, who played collegiately at Morehead State in Kentucky, said in a statement from Athlete Ally. “I respect, honor and support them in every way. The bond I have with them has made me realize that I want all members of the L.G.B.T. community – whether they are parents, players, coaches or fans – to feel welcome in the N.B.A. and in all of our communities.”

The N.B.A. welcomed Faried’s association with Athlete Ally.

“We are proud to work with Athlete Ally and thank Kenneth for his leadership on this issue,” Kathy Behrens, the league’s executive vice president for social responsibility and player programs, said in a statement. “His support on this issue is a welcome step in the N.B.A.’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about and end homophobia in sports.”

Anthony Randolph Excels In Rare Extended Minutes

Feb 13, 2013 10:52 AM

Anthony Randolph came into Tuesday's game against the Raptors having played just 122 minutes all season.

With the Denver Nuggets having four players out, Randolph played 27 minutes while scoring 16 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals.

"We've seen it in practice all year, and today he got a chance to show it," Ty Lawson said. "He's just versatile. ... He can handle the ball, rebound, and does all the little things. (With injuries), there's a lot of minutes out there, and he's definitely hungry to get some. He can be a big-time player with an opportunity."

The Nuggets lost the game by a final score of 109-108.

Tim Grgurich Returns To Nuggets As Temporary Consultant

Feb 1, 2013 7:41 PM

Tim Grgurich is back with the Denver Nuggets, this time as a temporary consultant to George Karl.

Grgurich spent five seasons under Karl before joining the Dallas Mavericks when they won the title in 2010-11.

“He gives me eyes, the pulse of the team,” Karl said. “Someone to give me another opinion on where he thinks we need to go and what steps (to take). There’s still two or three small steps of progression this team needs to make and your time in practices gets shorter. So having him prioritize here in the next week or two is important.”

Grgurich is considered a player-development guru.

“I’ve got him up here for a few days,” Karl said. “He’ll hang out with us for the next three games and, I don’t know where it goes from here but he’s a great coach, he’s a great friend. I think he has a love for the city of Denver and also the Nuggets. I know he loves the gym, so it’s an opportunity to get him in the gym.”
