Bulls Willing To Work With Dwyane Wade On Buyout

Sep 21, 2017 11:00 AM

The Chicago Bulls are willing to work with Dwyane Wade on a buyout agreement.

"First of all, we haven't heard directly from Dwyane," said John Paxson. "We've talked to his representatives. Gar's been on the phone with his guy several times in the last weeks, so some dialogue is going on. We haven't heard directly from Dwyane. But we understand where he is at this time of his career. We're more than willing to work with him.

"But as I said when we had the press conference to introduce the new players after the draft, we have to always do what's in our best interest. So there has to be something that is mutually agreed upon. It can't be something the player wins because that's what he wants. We have to do what's in our best interest.

"Like I said, Gar's having dialogue. We want to work with Dwyane because we respect him very much. If he doesn't want to be here, then we want to do it. But again, the bottom line is always, and it has to be, that we have to do what's in our best interest."

Bulls Hire Doug Collins As Senior Advisor Of Basketball Ops

Sep 19, 2017 10:43 AM

The Chicago Bulls have hired Doug Collins as a Senior Advisor of Basketball Operations. In his new role with the club, Collins will report to Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson.

One of the most respected figures in all of basketball, Collins returns to the Bulls with more than 40 years of experience in the NBA. In this capacity, he will serve as an expert resource for the front office and coaching staff.

“Doug will be great in this capacity for our organization. The position of ‘senior advisor’ has proven to work well around the NBA in recent years, and I am confident the same will hold true with the Bulls,” said Chicago Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. “The fact that our relationship goes back more than 30 years certainly helps, but he is especially qualified to assist our leadership in rebuilding the Bulls.”

“People who know me know the respect that I have for Jerry, Michael, and the Chicago Bulls organization. I am looking forward to getting started and helping everyone,” said Collins. “To be able to stay involved in the NBA and work with John, Gar, Fred and their respective staffs, while not having to leave my family and continuing to live in one of the greatest cities in the world—the fit couldn't be any better for me at this point in my life.”

Heat Interested In Dwyane Wade If He Takes Bench Role

Sep 8, 2017 11:52 AM

The Miami Heat will have interest in signing Dwyane Wade if he agrees to a bench role at their $4.3 million exception.

Wade and the Chicago Bulls are interested in a buyout to allow him to play for a contender.

Wade was recently asked by David Aldridge about what his preference would be for the coming season.

“First of all, obviously, everyone wants to compete,” Wade said. “It's no secret. We would all love to compete for a championship at the end of my career. That is one thing I would love to do. I'm not in a position right now to do that so I can't talk about what that preference is. Hopefully, one day before I'm done playing this game, I can be back in position to compete for a championship.”

Aldridge asked if it’s fair to say he will report to the Bulls and provide leadership but “in a perfect world” would “be back on another team that can compete?”

The Cleveland Cavaliers also have interest in signing Wade.

Jimmy Butler 'Couldn't Be Happier' With Trade To Wolves

Sep 5, 2017 2:22 PM

Jimmy Butler spoke about his growth as a player during a lengthy profile piece for Vice by Michael Pina.

Butler was traded by the Chicago Bulls to the Minnesota Timberwolves, which appears to be a decision motivated by how the team reacted to his emergence as a franchise player.

"I think they maybe expected me to stay the same, and I don't think that that's right. Like, I have changed. I will tell you that. But I think that I've changed for the better," Butler said. "When I say for the better, whenever I was a rookie, averaging 0.8 points per game or whatever it might be, it wouldn't matter if I scored that 0.8 because it wasn't going to win or lose us a game. Now, you go forward a couple years when I'm averaging 20 points per game, that's more than likely gonna cost us a game. It's gonna be the difference between winning or losing. Am I right? So now I don't give a damn about pressure, but if someone's going to take the blame for something, who they gonna point to? Me. So yeah, I've changed, because I want to (expletive) win. I want to show that I can win. So the way I go about things, it's not gonna be the way I went about things when I was a rookie, [when] I'm not gonna say anything. Now I've got something to (expletive) say."

Butler is reuniting with Tom Thibodeau after two seasons playing for Fred Hoiberg.

"I'm confrontational. I feed off of confrontation. It makes me go. Not everybody's like that. [Hoiberg] is not that coach, and there's nothing wrong with that. There are different coaching styles and people are gonna say—which is what they did say—'It's gonna be Jimmy's team or it's gonna be Fred's team.' Two total opposite ends of the spectrum. They're either gonna try to win it now or they're gonna go young. And you see which way they went with it. Completely fine. Yo, it's y'all's business. It's y'all's organization. It's cool. And now I'm in Minnesota and couldn't be happier."
