Teague Plans To Discuss Minutes With Drew

Nov 29, 2010 7:28 AM

Hawks guard Jeff Teague says that coach Larry Drew hasn't spoken to him about his reduced minutes.

Teague plans to have a conversation with the coach when the Hawks return to Atlanta.

The young guard's playing time has been up-and-down and he didn't play in a game for the first time this season in New York on Saturday night.

"It is part of coaching; it is part of the game," he said. "I thought he was doing what is best for the team. We are on a winning streak, so I'm happy the team is winning.

"I've got to be a professional. You've always got to be ready."

Crawford Open To Return To Knicks

Nov 28, 2010 11:36 AM

Hawks guard Jamal Crawford hasn't received the contract extension he desires from the team, which means he'll likely become a free agent next summer.

The Knicks, one of Crawford's former teams, will have cap space and the guard is open to a return to New York.

"I would definitely listen," Crawford said.

Crawford Admits Future Is Affecting His Play

Nov 23, 2010 4:11 PM

Hawks guard Jamal Crawford has admitted that his uncertain future is affecting his play on the court.

Crawford, the NBA's reigning Sixth Man of the Year, has averaged just 10.0 points on 36.4 percent shooting in Atlanta's past five games.

He is making $10.08 million in the final year of his contract and wants to sign an extension.

"I'm overthinking," Crawford said in an interview with FanHouse.

"I think with everything going on, I'm just thinking too much and not just playing basketball. ... I'd be lying if I said it hasn't crossed my mind, you know, the future. ... Everything's been a little bit of a distraction."

Shaq Picked Celtics Over Hawks For Better Title Shot

Nov 23, 2010 7:39 AM

Shaquille O'Neal said on Monday night that he decided to sign with the Celtics instead of the Hawks because he felt Boston gave him a better shot at another NBA title.

"These guys are one step away," O'Neal said before the Celtics played the Hawks Monday night in Atlanta. "But I love this town. I've had a home in Buckhead for 15 years."

Hawks coach Larry Drew says the Celtics were better fit to add a veteran like O'Neal.

"They have a blend of veteran players with the core of their team, and it's a lot easier to fit in a vet like Shaq," Drew said.

"If we brought him in here, it would be a little tougher. I don't think his personality would have fit with our guys. It makes more sense to have veteran guys around him."

Autopsy: Wright Shot Five Times

Nov 10, 2010 4:21 PM

An autopsy shows former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, whose body was found in July, died after being shot at least five times.

The autopsy report released by the Shelby County Medical Examiner says Wright was shot twice in the head, twice in the chest and once in the right forearm.

Wright's body was found 10 days after he went missing and authorities say his decomposed body makes it hard to discern if he was shot more than five times.

Evans: NBPA Not Buying Salary-Cut Talk

Nov 10, 2010 7:46 AM

Hawks veteran Maurice Evans said Tuesday NBA players aren't buying commissioner David Stern's recent call for a one-third reduction in salaries.

Stern said last month the NBA wants player costs to drop $750-800 million.

"We definitely don't agree with those numbers," Evans said. "We feel like the game is really at a great place."

Evans, a vice president on the NBA Players Association executive committee, said the two sides may not be able to make any substantial progress in the labor talks until the All-Star break, when all players are available to return to the negotiations.

"If we have a lockout, it's just going to set us back," Evans said.

"With the state the economy is in, fans are not going to want to keep getting slapped in the face with players and NBA teams, as fortunate as we are financially to even be playing a game for a living, to keep throwing it in people's face that we're not making enough money, whether it be the league or whether it be the players."

Marvin Williams Could Miss Two Weeks

Nov 9, 2010 7:41 AM

Hawks forward Marvin Williams could miss two weeks of action because of the knee injury he suffered last Wednesday against the Pistons.

Williams has a bone bruise in his right knee and will be examined later this week.

"After the first week, it will be about how much he can tolerate the pain," coach Larry Drew said.

Williams is averaging 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds on 51.4% shooting in five games this season.
