Nick Nurse Plans To Evaluate 'Where I'm At' After Season

Mar 31, 2023 9:32 PM

Nick Nurse revealed he plans to "take a few weeks to see where I'm at" after what he described as "a difficult season from a number of standpoints."

Nurse has been with the Toronto Raptors for 10 years, first as an assistant coach and then five years as head coach.

"Early on, had some pretty serious injuries with some key guys," Nurse said. "I thought we kind of weathered that for a while ... and then yeah, I think the trade deadline stuff, I don't know if there was a thousand rumors, 999 of them were about us, it seemed like. So that was probably as interesting as it gets."

Nurse, when asked where his head is at, said he is primarily focused on two things.

"First of all, I think when this season gets done, we'll evaluate everything, and even personally, I'm gonna take a few weeks to see where I'm at, you know?" Nurse said. "Like you said, where my head's at. And just see how the relationship with the organization is and everything. It's been 10 years for me now, which is a pretty good run. I don't know, over those 10 years we got to be up there in number of wins with anybody in the league. I don't know even know where that is, but we've had a lot of big seasons.

"And then, right now, my head is to make this as long of a season as possible. This team needs playoff experience. So that is where I'm at right now ... finish out these six, see where we land, see if we can't creep up a spot or two in the standings, and then give them hell in the playoffs, see if we can get in a real series and take it from there."

Kyrie Irving: It's Been Nothing But Great With Mavericks, Outside Of Losses

Mar 30, 2023 11:16 AM

The Dallas Mavericks have dropped four out of their past five games after losing 116-108 to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Mavericks are one game out of 10th behind the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"I think that now, again, just where we are in the season, and where other teams are positioned already, it kind of looks like a bit of a clusterf---, to be honest with you," Kyrie Irving said. "Because we're 37-40, and we're trying to fight to get into the play-in game. It's not the expectations I don't think any of us had in that locker room."

Irving is still adjusting to his new situation with the Mavericks.

"I didn't expect to ask for a trade at that point in the season," he said. "So I wanted to finish out with Brooklyn, finish out with the season that we had going, and I didn't get a chance to do that. So some of the goals I had previously this season had to be shifted, and I had to be more than willing, which I am, to be flexible and adaptable and live with the results, whether we make the playoffs or not.

"I just have to be at peace with where I am and which I am, and trust of the guys that I'm going to be in that war room with every single day. So, I'm appreciative of them giving me the opportunity. It's been nothing but great here. And I've been at peace."

Irving added: "So it's been good -- outside of the losses, of course. We'd like to win every game."

Irving will be a free agent this offseason.

DeMarcus Cousins: I Can't Get A Real Answer Why I'm Not In The NBA

Mar 29, 2023 8:48 AM

DeMarcus Cousins has had a few NBA workouts, but none have led to a contract. That's something that puzzles and bothers Cousins.

“That’s honestly my biggest issue. That’s kind of the untold secret of the NBA,” Cousins said on SiriusXM Radio when asked why he doesn’t have an NBA roster spot. “I’m the type of guy that whenever I go through my hard times, my hardships, I look at myself first. What can I do to better myself? That’s something I pride myself on."

Cousins said the harder part is that he can't get a straight answer from teams either.

“I’ve asked many questions. I’ve reached out to former teams. I kind of get sugar coated answers. I can never really get the raw honest truth," Cousins said. "I’ve struggled with that as well. I would love to get a real answer.”

The 12-year veteran finished last season with the Denver Nuggets. In 48 total games between Denver and the Milwaukee Bucks, Cousins averaged 9.0 points and 5.6 rebounds in 15 minutes per game.

Steve Kerr: 'There's Hope' Andrew Wiggins Returns This Season

Mar 29, 2023 1:00 AM

Steve Kerr said he was hopeful for Andrew Wiggins' return to the Golden State Warriors lineup this season, though he had no specific timeline.

"There's hope but it's I guess indefinite, it's also appropriate because we don't know," said Kerr on Tuesday.

Wiggins has missed 20 straight games due to a private family matter.

Kerr added that Wiggins, who has been working out by himself, will still need to be evaluated by the Warriors' training staff once he returns.

"Once he's back our training staff will be able to get with him and see where he is," added Kerr.

Damian Lillard Out For Remainder Of Season

Mar 28, 2023 5:11 PM

Damian Lillard has been shut down for the remainder of the season, sources tell Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report.

The Portland Trail Blazers have faded from the play-in picture with a disappointing second half.

With Lillard out for the season, the Blazers could finish with as low as the fifth pick in the draft. Portland sits on 32 wins along with the Orlando Magic, while the Indiana Pacers and Washington Wizards each have 33 wins.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported earlier on Tuesday that Lillard and the Blazers will have "serious conversations about what's next" after yet another disappointing season.
