Donovan Mitchell Trade Talks Between Knicks, Jazz Have 'Stalled Out,' No Discussions In Two Weeks

Jul 29, 2022 11:17 PM

Trade discussions between the New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz over Donovan Mitchell have "stalled out," sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Charania adds that both sides haven't talked in "roughly" two weeks.

The Jazz are having discussions over Mitchell with other teams, including the Hornets and the Wizards.

The Knicks will continue to be the focus of trade talks surrounding Mitchell due to having potentially eight first-round picks plus young players available for a deal.

Pacers, Knicks, Jazz Have Talked Deals For Russell Westbrook, Draft Picks

Jul 25, 2022 8:49 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers are well-known to be open to moving Russell Westbrook in the right trade. The Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks and Utah Jazz are the most recent teams to have talked with the Lakers on a deal involving Westbrook.

Those three teams are all open to bringing on Westbrook, as long as Los Angeles attaches future first-round picks in any deal. Thus far, the Lakers have reportedly held off on including more than one first-round pick in any Westbrook trade.

Indiana has roughly $30 million in cap space, which makes acquiring Westbrook an easier task for them than most other teams. The Pacers and Lakers have been linked in recent trade talks involving Buddy Hield and Myles Turner potentially headed to Los Angeles.

New York would have to send matching salary, including that of likely one or two rotation players. With the Knicks engaged in trade talks for Donovan Mitchell, it's unclear how they would approach a Westbrook trade.

The Jazz could offer the Lakers a package of players, as they are kicking off a rebuild after trading Rudy Gobert and talking Mitchell deals. Utah can't aggregate any of the players they acquired in the Gobert deal just yet, but those restrictions will lift in advance of training camps opening.

Jarred Vanderbilt Drawing Trade Interest From Rival Teams

Jul 22, 2022 9:13 AM

On the latest episode of "Please Don't Aggregate This", Jake Fisher said that Jarred Vanderbilt is drawing a lot of interest from rival teams in trade talks with the Utah Jazz. Vanderbilt was acquired by Utah as part of the deal that sent Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Vanderbilt is on a value contract that pays him just $4.4 million for this upcoming season. Next season, only $300,000 of his $4.7 million deal is guaranteed.

The 6-foot-8 forward became a starter for the first time for the Wolves last season. Vanderbilt averaged 6.9 points on 58.7% shooting, 8.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 25.4 minutes per game.

Donovan Mitchell Trade May Take Some Time

Jul 20, 2022 10:01 AM

The Utah Jazz are engaged in trade discussions for Donovan Mitchell. Just don't expect a resolution to happen quickly.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that a Mitchell trade may "take some time" to be put together. Utah has discussed Mitchell trades with the New York Knicks, but is now talking to other teams. It is expected the Jazz and Knicks will regroup after Utah has a better feel for what other teams may offer for Mitchell.

There has been other reporting that the Jazz asked the Knicks for more than the four to five first-round picks New York may have been offering. The Miami Heat have also reportedly explored ways to add more first-round picks to offer in packages for Mitchell or Kevin Durant.

Jazz Have Talked Mike Conley Trades

Jul 20, 2022 9:51 AM

The Utah Jazz have engaged teams in trade talks involving Mike Conley, Tony Jones of the Athletic reported while on Spotify Live with Marc Stein. Utah doesn't seem to be finding a lot of market for the veteran point guard, however.

Conley will turn 35 years old before the start of next season. He's owed $22.7 million for the upcoming season and has $14.3 million of his $24.4 million contract guaranteed for 2023-24.

Conley is also coming off a bit of a down season. He's improved his shooting, but Conley's defense and playmaking have fallen off some as he's aged.

The Jazz are in the midst of what seems like a full rebuild. Utah already traded Rudy Gobert and Royce O'Neale, they're talking Donovan Mitchell trades with teams, and other veterans like Conley, Bojan Bogdanovic, Jordan Clarkson and Rudy Gay all seem available, as well.

Jazz Exploring Broader Market For Donovan Mitchell Trade After Discussing Options With Knicks

Jul 18, 2022 10:29 AM

The Utah Jazz and New York Knicks continue to be on a collision course on a trade of Donovan Mitchell even though talks do not currently appear to be moving swiftly.

"Utah and New York talked last week," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "I think the Jazz got a sense of what New York might be willing to do. It's not just one particular deal. I think there's options. It's almost like a sliding scale that the more players you put in a deal, the less draft picks you want to give up. The more draft assets you put in a deal, you want to put less players in.

"If you're the Jazz, 'I want the players and I want the picks.' That's where it starts.

"I think for the Jazz, they go out now around the league and see what else is out there for Donovan Mitchell. Get a sense of what the market is, what teams are willing to do.

"I think the Knicks and the Jazz will reengage here at some point. Maybe it's this week. Maybe it's next week. Maybe it's in two or three weeks. The Jazz are not necessarily going to move quickly. The Rudy Gobert talks... that was over a period of time this summer and once Minnesota stepped up with the package they did, that was an easy deal for the Jazz to do.

"New York is motivated. They're motivated to get Donovan Mitchell, but I think they're also motivated to not just give up everything to get him. They've got four of their own unprotected first round picks. Now, people talk about seven or eight picks. I think a lot of those picks are conditional protected picks that are coming from places like Detroit and Washington. I don't think the Jazz value those the way they do New York's unprotected picks."

Simone Fontecchio, Jazz Agree to Two-Year, $6.25M Contract

Jul 17, 2022 4:58 PM

The Utah Jazz have agreed to sign free agent forward Simone Fontecchio to a two-year, $6.25 million contract. Fontecchio is the first free agent the Jazz have signed this offseason, and he will get a portion of Utah's Non-Taxpayer MLE.

Fontecchio is a 6-foot-7 wing from Italy. He started his professional career by playing for teams in Italy before spending the last two years in Germany and then Spain.

Last season, Fontecchio averaged 11.8 points on 45/41/86 shooting splits for Baskonia. He's been one of the more consistent three-point shooters in Europe over the last several seasons. Fontecchio has hit at least 41% from deep in four of his last six seasons.

RJ Barrett Not Believed To Be Dealbreaker In Discussions Between Knicks, Jazz On Donovan Mitchell

Jul 15, 2022 1:37 PM

Zach Lowe and Tim MacMahon appear to be in agreement that their reporting suggests RJ Barrett won't be a dealbreaker in the Utah Jazz discussions on a Donovan Mitchell trade with the New York Knicks.

"The Jazz desire to get him is unclear to me," said Zach Lowe. "He might not be the dealbreaker people think it is."

Barrett is eligible for a contract extension coming off his rookie contract this offseason. Utah might prefer additional picks from the Knicks in lieu of Barrett. The Knicks also have young players with promise in Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin and Quentin Grimes.

"I'm not clear either on RJ Barrett because I don't know that the Jazz, who all indications are they are going into a full fledged Oklahoma City style rebuild, which I think is the right direction...

"I don't know if the Jazz want to get a young player they have to immediately pay, possibly a max rookie extension. I think they're going in the direction of stockpiling picks, taking fliers on young inexpensive talent and then financial flexibility."
