Kings Sign Greene To Non-Guaranteed Deal

Aug 30, 2007 12:15 PM

Orien Greene, a third-year point guard, has agreed to terms with the Kings and is expected to sign this weekend, according to a league source.

Greene, who began his collegiate career at Florida and finished at Louisiana-Lafayette, spent his first two seasons playing in a limited role for Boston and Indiana after being drafted 53rd overall by the Celtics in 2005.

His contract is believed to be for one season and is only partially guaranteed, meaning he must win the backup point guard job during training camp in October.

Vick Gets Sympathy From Artest

Aug 29, 2007 6:30 AM

Ron Artest is one of the few professional athletes who can relate to what Michael Vick is about to endure, and the former LaSalle Academy and St. John's star is conflicted about the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback's future.

"I might get in trouble for this, but I want to call him," Artest said yesterday at The Palm Restaurant where he was promoting the Wheelchair Charities Hoop Game to be played Sept. 9 at the Garden.

"I want to support him and be there for him because [these are] tough times," continued Artest. "I don't support the dog fighting. I can't watch it. I can't imagine another dog biting a dog. It makes me nauseous."

Aug 28, 2007 9:46 AM

According to two league sources, fourth-year shooting guard Kevin Martin late Monday night agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Kings worth about $55 million.

Martin, whose breakout 2006-07 season will vault him into the upper pay ranks of NBA shooting guards, unexpectedly flew in from his training hub at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla., and arrived in Sacramento on Monday in anticipation of signing his new contract. A news conference is expected this week to announce the deal.

The Kings had until Oct. 31 to finalize an extension or allow him to become a free agent next offseason, but discussions between Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie and Martin's agent, Jason Levien, began in early August.

Bibby For Williams Part II Being Considered?

Aug 15, 2007 11:00 AM

Sacramento hasn't ruled out trading point guard Mike Bibby, and now views the Heat as a potential partner if it does, an NBA official said.

The Heat would give up Jason Williams, but whether Miami would move Udonis Haslem in such a deal is questionable. Bibby, due $13.5 million and $14.5 million the next two seasons, could be packaged with forwards Kenny Thomas or Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
