Snubbed In Draft, Justin Williams May Get Shot With Kings

Jun 30, 2006 12:53 AM

Although former Wyoming standout Justin Williams wasn't picked in Wednesday's NBA draft, his agent says he will get a chance to play professional ball with the Sacramento Kings.

Darren White, Williams' agent, told the Casper Star-Tribune on Thursday that Williams will play in the NBA's Toshiba Vegas Summer League with the Kings.

Kings coach Eric Musselman talked with White and Williams near the end of Wednesday's draft. Musselman said that Williams' defense could be valuable to Sacramento.

"We talked with coach Musselman, and he spoke very highly of (Williams)," White said.

Larry Brown's Assistant Joins Kings

Jun 16, 2006 5:40 AM

One of Larry Brown's assistants, Brendan O'Connor is leaving the Knicks to join Eric Musselman's staff in Sacramento, the New York Daily News is reporting. For O'Connor, who also worked for Brown in Detroit, the move is regarded as a promotion. He was the fourth assistant with the Knicks and sat behind the bench. He will now become one of Musselman's top assistants with the Kings.

Brown would have encouraged O'Connor to take the job even if he was assured of returning as Knicks coach. But with Brown likely to be replaced, the move was a logical one for O'Connor, who had three years left on his Knicks contract.

Musselman Hopes He Will Coach As Good As He Interviews

Jun 3, 2006 7:27 PM

Throughout Saturday's press conference, Eric Musselman was witty and showed his vast knowledge of coaching at many different levels of basketball. At one point of the press conference, he even joked that with all of the reports of what a great interviewer he was, he hoped that Joe and Gavin Maloof thought he could coach too.

He also wouldn?t declare a certain style of play right now, and said that he can adjust to different personal, like he did during his minor league stops along the way. At this point, some of the pieces already in Sacramento that he likes are the ability of Brad Miller to shoot the 3 and both Bonzi Wells and Ron Artest to be able to post up.

?He?s a defensive-mined coach, but he?s also proven that he?ll juice his offense,? said Geoff Petrie, Kings? President of Basketball Operations.
