Schenscher Close To Joining Kings?

Nov 29, 2006 10:04 PM

The Australian Associated Press has reported that the Adelaide 36ers remain eager to sign South Australian centre Luke Schenscher, despite rumors that the 216cm centre is close to joining NBA team Sacramento.

"I will speak to Luke's agent in the States to see if there is anything we can do once Luke's finished his time in the States or doesn't get the NBA deal he is after," Bauer told AAP.

"He stayed in the (NBA's second tier) Development League to hang around for any opportunities."

Schenscher had a short stint in Sacramento last season and the organistion is reportedly interested in bringing him back.

Brad Miller Returns For Kings

Nov 26, 2006 5:06 AM

A torn tendon in the left foot of Kings center Brad Miller put him out of commission on Nov. 4, with the prognosis that he would miss at least four weeks. The early buzz was that it could take even longer, but that was before Miller was suddenly sighted as a regular in pregame drills and practice routines, acting more active than an inactive player typically does.

Saturday at Arco Arena, Miller made a surprise return against Portland. Although Kings coach Eric Musselman and his staff decided to limit him to 15 minutes or less of playing time, the luxury of having a 7-footer was welcomed for a team that has struggled defensively in the paint lately. He played his first six minutes in the second quarter, tallying three rebounds, two assists, two points and three fouls in that time.

"With Brad, (the situation) was, Is he going to be activated for the Clippers game (Tuesday), for the Texas trip (Friday and Saturday)?" Musselman said. "But he's continually been on his own with the medical staff doing full-court stuff, slides, and hasn't experienced any discomfort.... To me, (the Kings' medical staff) has done an incredible job of getting guys back as quick as possible."

Williamson On 'No Tolerance' Rule: "I Don't Like It"

Nov 22, 2006 1:12 AM

Now in his 12th season, Corliss Williamson has seen a number of changes in the NBA.

But one of the most controversial among players has been the
"No Tolerance Rule," which gives referees the power to whistle immediate technical fouls on players who curse or merely express gestures of disappointment over a call.

"I don't like it. Basketball is an emotional game; guys are
always going to express their thoughts about calls," said
Williamson, who has one of the Kings' 10 technicals through nine games. "There are times you are going to disagree. You shouldn't get a "T" for nit-picky things."

Carlesimo Disappointed Kings Didn't Come Calling

Nov 20, 2006 4:49 AM

First Don Nelson, and now P.J. Carlesimo.  It appears that the Sacramento Kings head coaching job was a sought after position, even though some who wanted the title didn't receive a call from the team.

"Yeah, I was disappointed," said Carlesimo about not receiving a call. "I just thought it was a heck of a job. I would love to have been involved, just because I thought it was such a good job."

"I like the franchise. I like the players. I liked everything about it. It's a good town. For a lot of reasons, it was very, very attractive."

Nelson Laments Missed Chance To Coach Kings

Nov 16, 2006 6:10 AM

Of late, Warriors' coach Don Nelson has repeatedly has made it known that he was interested in the Kings' head-coaching position that was given to Eric Musselman, the Sacramento Bee is reporting.

The Kings' roster, Nelson said to the Bay Area media Tuesday, had everything to do with his interest, but he never received a phone call.

"I really like (the Kings)," said Nelson, who entered the season second all-time in wins, with 1,190. "I think they're as good as anybody in the West. I think the (Kevin) Martin kid has given them four All-Star players, really. Once (injured Kings center Brad) Miller gets back, I can't see anybody that's better than they are."

NBA To Lead Efforts For New Sacramento Arena

Nov 15, 2006 4:14 PM

The NBA announced today that, at the request of the Maloof family, the league office will be directing future efforts with respect to the possibility of a new multi-purpose arena for Sacramento ? to be home for the Kings and the Monarchs.

After a ballot proposal for a sales tax increase to help fund a new arena was defeated by the voters, the Maloofs met with NBA Commissioner David Stern and Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver and requested that the NBA assume the lead on the best way for a public/private partnership to develop a new arena for Sacramento.

?The Maloofs have never wavered in their interest in keeping their teams in Sacramento and they have requested that we take a leadership role in helping them achieve that goal,? Stern said.

?We believe that David Stern?s combination of experience and creative thinking will help us find a plan that will work for both the public and the team,? Joe Maloof said.  ?We will remain an integral part of the process, but the league is going to take the leadership role going forward. Gavin and I and the rest of the management team are going to be spending 100% of our time supporting the Kings and Monarchs and enhancing the experience of our loyal fans and community partners.?

Bibby Aggravates Right Wrist Injury

Nov 14, 2006 5:48 AM

At Kings practice Monday, Sacramento guard Mike Bibby aggravated his sore right shooting wrist that was injured simultaneously with his thumb in an Oct. 22 exhibition game in Reno.

Since Bibby made his surprise start in the regular-season opener, the wrist has been a bother, and the latest aggravation might force him to miss Wednesday's game against Memphis at Arco Arena.

"We have concern about getting proper rest for that thing and making sure he's ready to play against Memphis," Kings coach Eric Musselman said. "It's obviously continuing to bother him."

Shooting guard Kevin Martin said Bibby's pain was evident when he hurt it.

"It was on defense," he said. "He was guarding somebody, went in, and I guess he got caught. He grabbed it right when it happened. He's going through a lot of pain right now with that."

Wheels In Motion For Eventual Kings Move

Nov 12, 2006 8:37 PM

The future of the Kings in Sacramento is in limbo. Voters in Sacramento County overwhelmingly rejected ? by 80 percent to 20 percent ? a measure calling for a one-quarter percent sales tax increase to build a downtown arena, the East Valley Tribune is reporting.

Some are questioning whether the Maloof brothers wanted to keep the Kings in Sacramento at all.

Robert Waste, professor of public policy at California State University, Sacramento, said, ?If they were trying to sabotage (the arena plan) from Day 1, I don?t think they?d have done anything differently.?

Joe Maloof said the brothers are still committed to Sacramento, ?But it all comes down to a facility. Arco is the second-oldest building in the league. It doesn?t work anymore, not if you want to stay competitive.?
