Hill is running, plans return

Nov 25, 2003 10:01 AM

Injured Magic forward Grant Hill said Monday that he has been running sprints and has targeted February for a return, regardless whether the team is out of the playoff hunt. The Magic's season will end April 14.

"I want to play this year," Hill said before the Magic's 89-78 loss to the Indiana Pacers. "I want to play, whether there's five games or 10 games left.

"I'm not rushing to come to the rescue or anything, but I would love to get some games under my belt if I can. Obviously, we have to see where I'm at in this step-by-step process."

Orlando's Garrity to have knee surgery on Dec. 1

Nov 23, 2003 8:00 PM

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Orlando Magic forward Pat Garrity will have knee surgery on Dec. 1, and expects to miss most, if not all, of the season.

Garrity will undergo surgery to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee, and the usual rehabilitation time is four to six months. He had a similar procedure in August.

Garrity started the season on the injured list because of knee troubles. He was activated Nov. 7 and played in two games, scoring two points, before being placed back on the injured list last week.

In six seasons, Garrity has averaged 9.1 points while shooting 41 percent from 3-point range.

McGrady denies role in Rivers' firing

Nov 21, 2003 10:24 AM

On Thursday, Tracy McGrady denied a role in Doc Rivers' firing.

"You just knew when Doc got fired that there would be some comments out there that T-Mac had something to do with it," McGrady muttered following the team's Thursday morning practice. "I ain't had nothing at all to do with that. I had one run-in with Doc Rivers in the four years that I have been here and everybody wants to take it out of context that I had something to do with him getting fired. It's ridiculous and it's funny to me."

Rivers joins ABC

Nov 20, 2003 6:59 PM

Fired Orlando Magic coach Doc Rivers has joined ABC Sports as an analyst on its top NBA announcing team.

"Doc is absolutely the right fit for our NBA broadcasts," said Michael Pearl, senior VP and executive producer of ABC Sports.

"He brings the experience of being a game analyst and former player and coach, and his style is fresh and opinionated. We are thrilled that this worked out for us to be able to bring him onto our team," he said.

Rivers will work with Al Michaels on a select number of regular-season and playoff games, as well as the NBA Finals. He will also work games with play-by-play announcer Brad Nessler. Rivers' and Michaels' first game will be Houston at the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day.

McGrady's back aching again

Nov 20, 2003 9:59 AM

As if riding a 10-game losing streak and recovering from the firing of Doc Rivers isn't torture enough, the Magic (1-10) must deal with T-Mac's trick back.

"[Tuesday], I was really hurting," McGrady said. "I don't know what I did. It just started when I got on the plane [from Salt Lake City]. I just have to take it easy.

"I'll play, no doubt, but it's going to be a problem until I retire."
