Kevin Durant Sprains Right Ankle Against Dallas

Feb 28, 2009 7:01 AM

Thunder star Kevin Durant suffered what The Oklahoman has labeled a severely sprained right ankle against Dallas on Friday night, and it is unknown how long the dynamic scorer will be on the sidelines.

Durant used crutches and wore a protective boot on his right foot when leaving American Airlines Center. Team officials list him as day-to-day, but the injury was severe enough that team officials took an X-ray, which was negative.

"Kevin is a tough guy,? said teammate Jeff Green. "Hopefully, he doesn?t rush back too soon. We have some great trainers to help him get back quickly. We?ve just got to make up for him (being out).?

"I have no clue at this point (how long he?ll be out),? said Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks.

Thunder Drawing Well But TV Ratings Have Been Bad

Feb 27, 2009 1:35 AM

The Oklahoma City Thunder attendance has been in the top half, but its television ratings have been disappointing. Fox Sports Oklahoma?s 1.3 average rating for Thunder telecasts is 41 percent less than Fox Sports Net?s national average of 2.2 for its 24 NBA franchises.

"As we continue to introduce people to our players, to our organization and to the league, we know those numbers will grow along with the growth of the team,? said Ken Adelson, Thunder senior vice president and executive producer.

In comparison, recent OU men?s basketball telecasts against Texas and Kansas earned 12.3 and 8.9 ratings, respectively, on ESPN.

OKC's Brooks Doesn't Want Smith Bought Out

Feb 25, 2009 4:10 PM

Thunder coach Scott Brooks would prefer that the team holds onto veteran forward Joe Smith amid rumors that the organization could buyout his contract.

"I admire Joe Smith's professionalism, how he takes his time with our guys," Brooks said. "And he's a great veteran leader. I'm not concerned with the business side of it. I have to coach the guys that we have. That's going to be between (general manager) Sam (Presti) and (Smith's) agent. I don't know what's happening. I just know I like what Joe brings to this team. Joe's perfect for this team. He's been terrific for us."

Bryon Russell Interested In NBA Return

Feb 22, 2009 6:49 PM

Bryon Russell is interested in making a return to the NBA, and his agent has had conversations with the Celtics, 76ers, Thunder, and Suns.

Russell, who has been allowing a knee injury to heal, says that he's capable of playing 15-20 minutes a night.

"I want to help some playoff teams and get back into the game that I love," said Russell of playing in Boston. "I work out every day. The rust part can get worked out just by playing with the fellas. I wouldn't take away from The Big Three [in Boston]. I would love to play with them. I have nothing to prove. I want to lend a helping hand with the loss of [James ] Posey by playing defense, knocking down jump shots, and basically playing the role of a Posey. I got some life in these legs. Now that the [trade] deadline is over, I think people are looking to add a veteran on their squad. I'm hoping I can provide that."
