Heat Trade Victor Oladipo To Thunder

Jun 30, 2023 11:59 PM

The Miami Heat have traded Victor Oladipo and draft to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Oladipo is on a $9.45 million expiring contract. Oladipo previously played for the Thunder during the 16-17 season before he was traded to the Indiana Pacers for Paul George.

Oladipo suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee during the playoffs.

Pacers Considering Three-Year, $48M Offer To Max Strus

Jun 28, 2023 9:40 PM

The Indiana Pacers are considering a three-year, $48 million offer for Max Strus, sources tell Marc Stein of Substack.

The Pacers have more than $30 million in cap space this offseason.

Strus is likely to leave the Miami Heat this offseason due to the strong interest he's expected to receive at a figure of at least the $12.4 million midlevel exception. The Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic have also been linked with Strus.

“The amount of Max Strus buzz right now is ridiculous,” ESPN’s Zach Lowe said on a recent podcast. “Max Strus is getting the midlevel exception … All those teams are scared that someone with cap room is gonna beat that offer.”

The Heat are considered more likely to re-sign Gabe Vincent than Strus.

Max Strus is expected to receive significant free agent interest above the full midlevel exception that results in his departure from the Miami Heat.

Strus has been linked with the Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic, who are three teams with cap space.

Other teams are working to get under the first tax apron to make the full $12.2 million MLE available.

Strus is a career 37.1 percent three-point shooter.

Heat Will Wait Out Damian Lillard's Final Decision On Future

Jun 27, 2023 5:34 PM

The Miami Heat will wait patiently to see if Damian Lillard decides to seek a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers this offseason, sources tell Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald

Lillard met with the Blazers on Monday and decided to give the front office more time to see if they can make roster upgrades to put them in a position of contention during the free agency period. While some teams took that development as one that will lead them to other options, the Heat view Lillard as "a player worth waiting for."

Lillard has already said he sees the Heat and Brooklyn Nets as two desirable teams to play for should he leave the Blazers.

Miami doesn't believe they are missing out on anything by waiting for Lillard. They will try to re-sign Gabe Vincent regardless of the Lillard situation. The Heat don't view Zach LaVine as an upgrade over Tyler Herro when factoring in the difference of salary and luxury tax.

The Heat won't need clarity until the end of August when they decide if they need to use the waive-and-stretch provision on Kyle Lowry or Victor Oladipo.

Heat Considering Waive-And-Stretch On Kyle Lowry If No Trade Materializes

Jun 27, 2023 11:04 AM

The Miami Heat are considering using the waive-and-stretch provision on Kyle Lowry if they are unable to trade him, sources tell Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Lowry is due $29.7 million next season in the final year of his three-year, $85 million deal signed with the Heat in 2021.

If the Heat use the provision on Lowry, he would count against their cap at $9.9 million each of the next three seasons. Miami’s 2023-24 salary cap commitments would shrink from $178.5 million to $158.5 million, below the $165 million tax line and the $182.5 million second apron.

The waive-and-stretch provision must be used before Sept. 1.

The Heat have hoped to use Lowry in a trade for Damian Lillard.

Damian Lillard Has 'Serious Interest' In Heat If He Decides To Move On From Blazers

Jun 26, 2023 12:55 PM

Damian Lillard has "serious interest" in a trade to the Miami Heat if he decides he would like to move on from the Portland Trail Blazers, reports Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Lillard has $216 million over four seasons remaining on his contract, which Amick writes will be a factor in Lillard ensuring he is traded to a situation that is to his liking.

In an offseason interview, Lillard talked about playing with the Heat as a hypothetical due to his friendship with Bam Adebayo.

The Heat have enough assets to put together a competitive offer for Lillard if he becomes available. The Brooklyn Nets are widely viewed as the other realistic trade destination for Lillard.
