Healthy McGrady Pushing For Rockets To Get Wells

Sep 27, 2006 10:49 PM

Tracy McGrady said Wednesday he feels 100 percent health-wise and is pushing hard to get Bonzi Wells to come to Houston.

Wells' new agent, Merle Scott, said he expected Wells to make a decision by Friday. The Rockets, Nuggets, Heat and Bobcats are the leading interested teams, but the Rockets have an edge because of what they can offer both Wells and his old team, the Sacramento Kings.

While the Heat and Nuggets are right up against the luxury tax and thus would only acquire Wells through a sign-and-trade for another player, Houston could offer a sign-and-trade for a second-round pick and a trade exception worth $4.2 million left over from the deal that sent Moochie Norris to the Hornets last season. The Kings have said they do not want to take back additional salary that would put them above the luxury-tax threshold, and getting even a little something for Wells would be better than getting nothing.

McGrady hinted that he had pressed his pitch to Wells as recently as Wednesday morning, and said a decision from the nine-year veteran seemed imminent.

Luxury Tax The Issue On Anderson Talks

Sep 27, 2006 8:38 AM

The Miami Heat wants to re-sign forward Shandon Anderson but coach Pat Riley said the club is "investigating some other options", the Palm Beach Post is reporting.

Riley said the issue is the luxury tax, which could mean Anderson is seeking more than the $1.2 million veteran's minimum.

After winning his fifth NBA title as a head coach, Pat Riley spent the next two months keeping most of the Heat organization guessing about his next move.

Turns out, there was no reason for their angst.

Riley revealed Tuesday that the decision to return was easy, saying he quickly realized the defending NBA champions would be best-served with him on the sideline.

Wade Films New Converse Commercial With Spike

Sep 26, 2006 9:06 AM

Last season, Dwyane Wade was featured in a ``Fall Seven Times, Stand Up Eight'' for his Converse sneaker.  On Monday, he filmed a new commercial under the direction of legendary filmmaker Spike Lee.

''Last year everybody saw something I was about, the falling and the basketball action,'' Wade said after the long day of shooting. 'I'm kind of sick of basketball commercials. Even Spike said, `You don't want to see the typical dunk. You don't want to see the typical crossover anymore.' What the fans want now, they want to get to know who you are. And without me getting on a TV show and talking about my whole life, I thought we would give them a snippet about the way I think when it's time for games, or what's important to me. That's something that I really stressed, and I wanted this to be a real piece.

''You're going to see my ads and my billboards, I'm just going to be like this,'' Wade added, tugging on his black tank top. ``You're going to see something real, just D-Wade.''

"It's something nobody in my family has ever done, plan for it like this," he said. "I'm really ready. My son is about to be 5 years old. He's grown up and I think it's time to extend my family."

Wells' Agent Talking To Heat

Sep 21, 2006 4:04 AM

Merle Scott, the Miami-based agent for Bonzi Wells, said Wednesday he has spoken to the Heat regarding the free-agent guard.

Wells, who turned down a five-year, $36 million offer to return to the Kings earlier this offseason only to have it pulled off the table, recently switched agents and began exploring his remaining limited options.

"We've spoken to the Heat, yes," Scott said. "And we will talk again."
