Horton Expects To Sign With Heat

Jun 30, 2006 12:32 PM

Not being picked in this year's NBA Draft did not trouble former Michigan point guard Daniel Horton.

Horton expects that the Miami Heat will sign him to a free agent deal before summer league begins.

"It's a better deal than being drafted in the second round," he said. "I may even have a chance to win a championship with them, and I could have a chance to play," said Horton.

Anderson Picks Up Option; Posey Deadline Extended

Jun 27, 2006 2:26 AM

Miami confirmed on Monday that Derek Anderson had picked up his $2.5M option as expected, and that the team now has to wait to find out the status of forward James Posey.

Agent Mark Bartelstein said Monday that today's deadline for Posey's 2006-07 opt-in has been shifted to Friday, instead of the previous deadline of 24 hours before Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. NBA Draft.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel expects Posey to opt out, considering his strong play during the playoffs.  Posey was scheduled to make $6.4 million next season.

Posey Needs To Decide By Sunday Whether Or Not To Opt Out

Jun 21, 2006 1:01 PM

James Posey can opt out of the final year of a four-year deal, which would pay him $6.4 million next season, but the chances of finding a better deal with another team is slim.

''We made a pact we wouldn't discuss it until the playoffs are over,'' agent Mark Bartelstein said, adding Posey must inform the Heat by Sunday. ``He would love to stay. We'll have to look at everything.''

Bartelstein confirmed one option would be opting out and trying to negotiate a long-term deal with the Heat.
