Kobe to the Spurs?

May 30, 2004 4:20 PM

According to Kori Ellis from SpursZone it appears the San Antonio Spurs are on the radars of both Tracy McGrady and Kobe Bryant.  Bryant, one of the league's best players, could end up in either Phoenix or San Antonio if he leaves the Lakers, with the Clippers a longshot according to a source of Peter Vescey of the New York Post.

Vescey's source was also cited as saying "I know he wants out of L.A. in the worst way.

"If he goes, it wouldn't surprise me if Kobe chooses between the Suns and the Spurs."

It was also said that the Jazz and the Nuggets, two other teams with cap room, have no shot at the All-NBA guard.

Bickerstaff Says Bobcats Could Trade Up

May 27, 2004 7:29 AM

Bernie Bickerstaff said he believes the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers may be interested in trading their picks.  The results of last night?s Draft lottery determined that the teams will select numbers 1 and 2, respectively.

The Bobcats will contact the teams to inquire about a swap of the number 4 pick plus additional compensation.

"It makes sense to me that if these teams could get veteran help to improve their position, they'd listen," Bickerstaff said.

Connecticut?s Emeka Okafor and Atlanta high school star Dwight Howard are the consensus top two picks in this draft.

The Magic and/or Clippers may be looking for a veteran player who can step in and contribute immediately.

"I think what you do is call and ask if there's anything we can do to satisfy their needs," Bickerstaff said.

NBA Draft Day the Teen Way

May 11, 2004 7:07 AM

The pool of underclassmen entering the NBA Draft is filling up.  Only 14 underclassmen entered the Draft in 1990, compared to 34 in this year's Draft as of yesterday afternoon.  The deadline to declare for this year's Draft was 11:59 P.M. last night.  The league will release the complete list this week.

Early entrants make the teams' pre-Draft preparation and Draft-day choices far more challenging.  "This is going to be the toughest draft to analyze," said Marty Blake, the NBA's director of scouting, "and I've been doing this 52 years."

The flood of youth also boosts the likelihood of increased trade activity all the way up until and through Draft night.
