Gary Forbes To Play For Panamanian National Team

Jul 17, 2011 1:40 PM

Nuggets swingman Gary Forbes will play for his native Panama in the FIBA Americas tournament in August, hoping to land a berth in the 2012 London Olympics.

Forbes, 26, spent a few years playing in the Philippines, Venezuela, Israel, and Italy, and is not against returning to international basketball if the lockout lingers. Forbes will receive added exposure playing in the FIBA Americas next month.

“I’m pretty much used to [playing overseas], I’ve been there before and it would be nothing different for me,’’ he said. “I thought about it. My agent is working on some good situations and hopefully if the lockout ends before that I will be getting ready to put on a Denver Nuggets jersey next year. As far as next year goes, it will be different just having the whole year without having any distractions.’’

Jul 12, 2011 4:25 PM

Ty Lawson said he would definitely play overseas if the NBA lockout proves to be as long as many of the predictions.

"If they say we're definitely going to be locked out in November, I'm going to go over there until the season starts or for the whole year," Lawson said.

The guard, who finished his second season with the Nuggets, averaging 11.7 points, 4.7 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals, said it won't take long to survey the landscape and make his move.

Faried Hopes To Become An All-Star

Jul 3, 2011 2:02 PM

Kenneth Faried, who led Morehead State to an upset of Louisville in the 2011 NCAA Tournament in Denver, has fans of the area excited that he will be the newest member of the Nuggets.

"I don't quit on plays," said Faried, who was drafted No. 22 overall. "I just want it more than anybody else."

"As far as him being strong as a person, he got that from me, his father and my wife," said his mother, Waudda Faried, from back home in Newark, N.J. "He grew up in the 'hood, but he's not 'hood.' It was a totally different attitude. And I'm just proud of him. I'm so proud of him, I can't express the words of how proud I am."

Faried is excited to be joining the Nuggets.

"I'm excited to be here, but I want to get better every day," Faried said. "I want to hopefully become an all-star some day. . . . I'm ready to do what the coaches ask me to do. If I have to go to the D-League and get better, I'm ready to do that. I'm just going to keep grinding hard, like I have been my whole life."
