Mark Cuban Gives Over/Under Of June 1st For NBA Resuming Games

Mar 23, 2020 9:25 PM

Mark Cuban is optimistic the NBA can resume their 19-20 schedule by the middle of May.

"Hopefully by the middle of May, we're starting to get back to normal and the NBA is playing games," Cuban said. "Maybe not with fans, but we're playing it because sports plays such an important role. You know, people want something to cheer for, people want something to rally around, people want something to be excited about."

The NBA is suspended indefinitely to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

"I'm proud of Adam Silver," Cuban said. "I'm proud of the NBA and the way we've reacted. I think we've led the way, and hopefully will lead the way out of this.

"I mean you know no one has perfect information right now, and so all decisions are tough. But, you know, if I had to guess based off the people I've talked to at the CDC and other places -- I would say that the over under would be June 1, and I'm taking the under."

Teams Still Allowed To Practice After NBA Suspends Season

Mar 12, 2020 1:25 AM

Teams are still allowed to practice, treat injuries, and continue routine non-game activities after the NBA suspended the season due to coronavirus fears.

"I was very specific as was [Rick Carlisle] to say who you talk to is very important. If bringing people in because you have down time, no. That's not going to work. You have to be accountable to the people you are dealing with and who you know. For your own personal safety and for everybody else's. This is not a vacation. This is effectively self-quarantining because it's our responsibility to be vigilant," said Mark Cuban following the Mavs' 113-97 win over the Nuggets.

Cuban added that Mavs players were told to remain in Dallas while the league was suspended.

Cuban said that concerns surrounding the virus put basketball into perspective.

"It's stunning, but we are where we are. We have to be smart in how we respond. This is people's lives at stakes. This isn't about basketball, this isn't about the Mavericks. This isn't about when do we start, do we start? Or how do we start? This is a pandemic, a global pandemic where people's lives are at stake."

Mark Cuban: NBA Franchises Are 'Considerably Undervalued'

Mar 9, 2020 2:17 PM

Mark Cuban believes the actual valuations of NBA franchises are higher than what Forbes typically estimates.

“Any unique asset is worth what someone will pay for it,” Cuban said via email. “That said, most NBA teams and their arenas make money. When interest rates are low, as they have been for so long, the cash flows can justify these valuations and higher.”

NBA franchises are valued at $2.12 billion on average, which is up 475 percent from a decade ago.

“Add to that the value of any ancillary projects, real estate, development projects, whatever, and of course the vanity and branding value, and I think today … and of course things can change … but today NBA teams are undervalued. Considerably undervalued,” Cuban said.

Mark Cuban Fined $500k By NBA For Criticism Of Referees

Mar 6, 2020 3:54 PM

The NBA has issued a $500,000 fine to Mark Cuban for "public criticism and detrimental conduct regarding NBA officiating."

The NBA also denied the protest of the Dallas Mavericks' loss on Feb. 22, which ended with Cuban confronting referees on the court and then he criticized them on Twitter and while speaking to reporters.

The NBA said in a statement that Cuban's comments were "highly critical, personal and demeaning to the league and its officiating staff" and that he continued to publicly criticize the officiating over the following days.

"It is a recognized part of sports for fans and the media at times to criticize officiating, but team executives must be held to a higher standard," the NBA said. "A team owner's effort to influence refereeing decisions during and after a game creates the perception of an unfair competitive advantage and thereby undermines the integrity of the game.

"Demeaning league employees also creates an intimidating workplace environment. With an increased focus on respectful conduct by coaches, players and fans during games, the actions of team executives should set an example and not lower expectations for appropriate behavior in our arenas."
