Adam Silver Encourages Teams To Hire More Women

Sep 21, 2018 9:41 PM

Adam Silver wants all teams to hire more women, especially in leadership and supervisory positions.

Silver, in a memo sent to all teams Friday and obtained by ESPN, also asked teams to thoroughly review the report that was released earlier this week about the Mavericks.

"Use this opportunity to make changes and create a dialogue within your organizations about workplace policies, procedures and respectful conduct," Silver wrote.

The investigation made clear that others within the organization were allowing an environment in which workplace misconduct was rampant.

"Respect and integrity are core NBA values, and we all must work to ensure that they are reflected in the culture and workplaces of our organizations," Silver wrote.

Mavericks Likely To Start Luka Doncic At Power Forward, Dirk Nowitzki Off Bench

Sep 21, 2018 9:30 PM

Dirk Nowitzki is likely to play a reserve role for the Dallas Mavericks this season.

The Mavericks signed DeAndre Jordan in free agency to play center, which has been Nowitzki's primary position over the past two seasons. Dallas is also expected to start Luka Doncic at power forward.

"When we signed DeAndre, it was pretty much clear in my head that I'm coming off the bench," Nowitzki said at the Mavs' media day Friday. "It's all about winning, at the end of the day. Whatever puts us in the best position to win is what we're going to roll with, and coach Carlisle has obviously shown over his time here that he's willing to try anything.

"If that's the case, and I'm coming off the bench, we better keep [an exercise] bike ready and keep a couple of massage therapists in the back, and I'll be ready to go."

Dirk Nowitzki May Be Willing To Play 6th Man Role

Sep 14, 2018 9:14 AM

Dirk Nowitzki may be willing to come off the bench in his 21st season. Nowitzki has primarily been playing center over the past few seasons but the Dallas Mavericks acquired DeAndre Jordan this offseason.

"Obviously, the last couple years, I've played more at the [center position]," Nowitzki said. "Jokingly, I told DeAndre that, the way the foot is healing, you're going to have to fight for your starting spot. I texted him that two, three weeks ago. He was just laughing.

"I'm not sure what that meant."

Jordan is on a one-year deal while Nowitzki may retire after this season.

"Obviously, DeAndre's going to be our starter at the five position and the rest will just kind of fall in place after that," Nowitzki said. "If [Barnes] goes back to the four or we start other ways, I have no idea as of yet. But it's a great problem to have. We want to be a franchise that is back in the playoffs and plays well and has fun again."
