Tyronn Lue's Leave Of Absence Related To Anxiety

May 31, 2018 2:44 PM

Tyronn Lue revealed he has been getting treated for anxiety after taking a medical leave of absence

Lue had been having chest pains and occasionally coughing up blood when he left the team in March.

"I'm glad it wasn't anything serious," Lue told ESPN's Rachel Nichols in an exclusive interview. "Just anxiety, and the medication I'm on is great. No more chest pains, so everything's been great."

Lue had undergone a number of tests before his decision to take a leave of absence in mid-March.

During the two weeks Lue was away, he was able to get some rest, make lifestyle changes and begin a medication routine that helped reduce some of the stress.

"I think for the first time in my career, 20 years, I had a chance to focus on me. It wasn't as bad as people thought it was. But I did have some chest pains for the last couple of years. And I was just trying to be able to get through it not knowing what was wrong with me," Lue told Nichols.

"So the two weeks I took off, just finally had a chance to focus on myself and change my diet. Hired a chef. Stopped drinking as many Shirley Temples. And stopped with the sweets and got back to taking care of myself. Now I feel great."

Lue added he received support from his players, coaching staff, management and others around the NBA.

Dan Gilbert Focusing On Present As Cavs Advance To Finals

May 29, 2018 9:30 AM

After the Cleveland Cavaliers advanced to their fourth Finals in four seasons, Dan Gilbert said he's not letting the pending free agency of LeBron James this summer swallow up the moment.

"Like him, I think he's said this, we're just focused -- and it's the truth, it's not avoiding the question -- we're literally focused on (the now)," Gilbert told ESPN. "It's just so intense in the playoffs and getting to the Finals and now the Finals, I don't think -- and I know he doesn't -- I don't think even our guys are talking (about anything other than) what's in front of them.

"So, everybody knows, obviously what we want to happen and we'll take the Finals first and take it from there."

Gilbert has had few words to say about James' situation on the record this season.

Kevin Love Ruled Out Of Game 7 In Concussion Protocol

May 26, 2018 7:02 PM

Kevin Love has been ruled out of Game 7 after being placed in the concussion protocol.

Love was experiencing concussion-like symptoms after his collision with Jayson Tatum in the first quarter of Friday's game.

Tyronn Lue initially stated during a conference call that Love was in the concussion protocol. He then backtracked after further questioning to say that Love was still being evaluated and that he didn't know about the protocol process or whether Love would go into it.

The Cavaliers are minus-20 with Love in the game but plus-18 when he's off.

Tyronn Lue: Great Players Run The NBA

May 22, 2018 9:58 AM

Tyronn Lue won an NBA championship in his first season as a head coach, replacing David Blatt in January of 2016.

Likely due to the greatness of LeBron James, Lue is often overlooked as one of the league's better head coaches.

“You have to get them to buy into your plan, your vision. You must have a shared vision," said Lue about the difficulty of coaching superstars.

“The players run the league,” Lue said. “This is not college, where the coach runs it. It’s not overseas. This is the NBA, so when you have those great players, they run the league. If they’re not happy with you, you’ll be gone.”

Assistant coach Larry Drew explained the perils of coaching a star like James.

“It starts with the coach’s ability to relate to players,” Drew said. “A great coach has to know players, know how to put players in a position to be successful and has to know how to adjust.”

LeBron James Will 'Recalibrate' Before Game 3

May 16, 2018 10:55 AM

After going down 0-2 in the Eastern Conference Finals, LeBron James plans to "recalibrate" before Game 3 on Friday.

“I’m going to go home tonight and see my three kids, see my family, recalibrate, see my mom,” James said after the game. “I think I’ll be fine. I’m not going to lose sleep over it. You go out and when you lay everything on the line, at the end of the day, you can live with that.

“I’ll recalibrate as far as how I can help this team continue to be successful, how I can do some things to make us be even more complete.”

After losing in Game 1, James told the media: "I have zero level of concern at this stage."

Cavaliers Believe They're Set Up For 'Sustainable Success'

May 16, 2018 9:43 AM

Now with the pick from the Brooklyn Nets via the Boston Celtics settled at No. 8, the trade of Kyrie Irving has become a bit more clear for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers essentially traded Irving and their own first round pick for Jordan Clarkson, Rodney Hood, Larry Nance, Ante Zizic and the No. 8 pick.

"As we’ve gone through the process this year, I think this is a really deep draft,” Altman said. “If I was sitting with 8 in past years, I might not say that. I think 8 is very valuable this year.”

Altman was asked to assess the Irving trade now that the Cavaliers will pick No. 8.

“We’re in the Eastern Conference finals, which is I think a great achievement,” he said. “We’re competing to get to the Finals. I think we have really talented young players and I think with this draft pick, it sets us up for sustainable success.”

LeBron James: I Have Zero Level Of Concern After Game 1

May 14, 2018 11:33 AM

The Cavaliers were blown out by the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, but LeBron James remains optimistic about his team's chances.

“I have zero level of concern at this stage,” James said. “You get better throughout the series. You see ways you can get better throughout the series. But I’ve been down 0-1, I’ve been down 0- 2. I’ve been down before in the postseason. For me, there’s never no level of concern no matter how bad I played tonight with seven turnovers, how inefficient I was shooting the ball. I’m just as confident going into a series whether it’s a 0-0 series or I’m down 0-1. We have another opportunity to be better as a ball club coming in Tuesday night, and we’ll see what happens.”
