LeBron: Loss Doesn't Affect Status With Cavs

May 31, 2009 9:23 PM

After skipping out on reporters Saturday night following their Game 6 elimination, LeBron James has finally spoken about the end of Cleveland's season.

James insisted that the loss won't affect his future with the Cavaliers.

"I'm great," said James. "I feel great about this situation that's going on. You want to continue to get better, that's all you can ask. We got better and I feel this team will be better next season. You don't want to take a step backward. I think we went forward from the Boston series [a Game 7 loss in the semifinals] last year.

"Hopefully we can go forward next year."

James added that he hasn't given any thought to signing a contract extension, which can be offered on July 18, with Cleveland.

LeBron Skips Out On Reporters After Loss

May 31, 2009 8:53 AM

LeBron James left the locker room without talking to reporters on Saturday night after the Cavaliers were eliminated by the Magic.

James went scoreless in the second quarter of Game 6, allowing Orlando to build an 18-point lead heading into halftime.

"We can't put it all on him," Cavaliers forward Joe Smith said. "He needs some help."

James had 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in his least impressive game of the Eastern Conference Finals.

"You need a total team effort to win," Magic forward Rashard Lewis said. "LeBron's a great player, but at the same time, you need more than one guy. You need five guys. You need guys coming off the bench."

Magic Finish Off Cavs; Advance To Finals

May 30, 2009 11:09 PM

The Magic defeated the Cavaliers 103-90 on Saturday night to advance to the NBA Finals for just the second time in franchise history.

Orlando jumped out to a 18-point lead at halftime and held off a few charges by Cleveland in the third and fourth quarters.

Dwight Howard starred with 40 points and 14 rebounds and Rashard Lewis added 18 points and 8 boards in the Game 6 victory.

The Magic hit 46% of their shots, outrebounded the Cavaliers by 13, and went 17-for-21 from the foul line.

Mickael Pietrus scored 14 points for Orlando, single-handedly outscoring Cleveland's bench.

LeBron James had 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the loss, a strong effort but one that paled in comparison to his previous performances in the series.

The NBA's MVP went 8-for-20 from the field, and didn't receive enough help from his supporting cast.

Mo Williams had 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting, Delonte West added 20 points on 9-for-19 shooting, and Wally Szczerbiak went just 1-for-5 from the field.

The Magic will face the Lakers in the NBA Finals beginning on Thursday.

West Ready To Play Despite Bruise

May 30, 2009 9:14 AM

Cavaliers guard Delonte West is ready to play in Saturday's Game 6 against the Magic despite an ugly bruise on the right side of his hip.

West missed the final moments of Cleveland's 112-102 win over Orlando in Game 5 because of a hip pointer.

"I took a shot; I don't know when it happened because there's so much going on out there," said West.

"My body stopped acting right at one point in the game. Any movement on my right side was affecting the area, and my body just wanted to stop running. So I had to make the decision to see what was going on and come out of the game."

He received treatment on Friday, and benefited from the fact that the Cavaliers didn't practice.

"It still hurts a little, but I'm moving around just fine," West said.

LeBron: Olympics Pose More Pressure Than Playoffs

May 29, 2009 3:33 PM

LeBron James told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he felt more pressure playing in the Olympics than he does in the NBA's postseason.

"I definitely feel the pressure was bigger with the Olympics than it is here," James said Thursday.

"A lot of people may say different, but when you play for the Olympics team you're playing not only for Cleveland, you're playing for Orlando, you're playing for Los Angeles, Denver, you're playing for every city, every county and every place in the United States of America. So that was way more pressure than what is going on here."

Cavs Had Plan To Exploit Defense In Fourth

May 29, 2009 6:43 AM

LeBron James dominated the fourth quarter of Cleveland's 112-102 win over Orlando in Thursday's Game 5.

Afterward, he admitted that the Cavaliers' coaching staff had a plan in place to exploit the Magic's defense when the time was right.

"I knew there was going to be an opportunity to press the gas on the offensive end," James said. "It was something the players and coaches came up with to exploit their defense and take advantage of my shooters."

The NBA's MVP scored or assisted on 32 straight of Cleveland's points from late in the third quarter to late in the fourth.

James had 17 points and 4 assists in the fourth, allowing him to finish with 37 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists.

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy admitted that James was difficult to stop with the game on the line.

"They're giving him the ball in the middle of the floor. The game is all LeBron all the time," Van Gundy said. "It is a difficult area to double team in because of shooters and his passing. It gets real tough because he has shooters and if he gets in the lane it is automatically a foul."
