Tights On The Way Out?

Mar 30, 2006 6:45 PM

Fashion trends have always defined the NBA from generation to generation and the lastest one is that of wearing tights. However, this trend might be on the way out as Darren Rovel and Marc Stein say NBA officials don't like the look of tights that have become more commonplace this season.

Sources said that all 30 teams were informed of this last month, but it would be possible for players to continue to wear these tights if they send the league a written request from the team doctor.

Cleveland Already Looking To What They Can Do To Keep Flip

Mar 27, 2006 2:55 AM

The Cavs also are likely to exceed the salary cap, which means they'll have just the two salary-cap exceptions -- what are known as the mid-level exception and the bi-annual exception -- to re-sign their own free agents such as Flip Murray.

Because he signed a one-year qualifying offer contract with Seattle this past offseason and subsequently waived his no trade rights, the Cavs cannot use so-called Bird Rights to sign re-Murray.  So they must use one of these two exceptions.

The mid-level has not yet been determined but is expected to be $5.2 - $5.4 million and the bi-annual will be $1.75 million.  Each can be used to sign just one player or can be broken down and used to sign multiple players.

Ferry Not Speculating On Flip's Future

Mar 21, 2006 6:03 PM

Flip Murray, signed by the Sonics to a one-year, $895,248 contract in September, is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He knows that producing down the stretch will ultimately land a very nice multiyear deal.

Ferry would not speculate on how much interest the Cavaliers will show in retaining Murray, who is averaging 14 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 11 games as a starter.

"At the end of the season," Ferry said, "we'll sit down and discuss the future.

"In the time he's been here, Flip has proven he is capable. The trade has worked out very well. He's helped us win games."

Mar 19, 2006 1:07 PM

Last week, Orlando Magic television commentator Matt Guokas, who used to do Cavs games, told his audience that center Zydrunas Ilgauskas had been so frustrated with his teammates lack of response in Rasheed Wallace elbowgate three weeks ago that he went to the front office and asked to be traded in the offseason.

Guokas was partially right and partially wrong. Team insiders said Ilgauskas did go to management upset but never expressed desire to go anywhere.
