Reinsdorf Will Help Bulls Recruit LeBron

Jun 30, 2010 3:33 PM

Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and new head coach Tom Thibodeau will accompany general manager Gar Forman and executive vice president John Paxson on their recruiting trip of LeBron James, according to a source.

The NBA's free-agent market opens at 12:01 a.m. ET on Thursday and James is expected to host representatives from several teams in Ohio.

The Nets and Knicks are expected to meet with James on Thursday.

It's not certain when the Bulls will meet with LeBron.

"When July hits, there are so many scenarios and so many different things that can happen," Forman said on "Mike & Mike In The Morning" on ESPN Radio. "Our job as a front office has been to spend time preparing for all the different things that can happen, not unlike the draft. To prepare for the draft, you have a lot of options in front of you and you have to study all those options and sometimes make quick decisions, so you have to spend time beforehand and take a look at all those things and be ready for anything that comes about.

"You can't have any contact until July 1, so obviously on July 1 we're going to be very active. There are different paths you can take, but on July 1, we'll get a feel for the landscape, and then make decisions based off that."

Source: Cavs Have Edge For LeBron; Decision To Take 'Several Days'

Jun 29, 2010 11:18 AM

A source told The Plain Dealer that the Cavaliers maintain an edge to sign LeBron James as a free agent this summer.

"Despite all summits/rumors/reports," wrote Brian Windhorst on his Twitter page, "LeBron source told me this morning that Cavs still have edge in race."

Later in a full-length article, Windhorst said that the additional cash the Cavs can offer, plus the fact that James makes his home in nearby Akron, continue to keep the Cavs in the lead.

"This is based not only on the fact that the Cavs can pay him $30 million more than another team over the next six years, but also that it is James' home," Windhorst wrote.

"After all the meetings, according to sources, James is expected to make his decision over a period of several days," Windhorst added. "Until then, James does not plan on committing to anything."

Wade Not In Miami Over Weekend; Reps Refute Report Of Summit

Jun 29, 2010 10:56 AM

Michael Wallace of the Miami Herald reports that Dwyane Wade was not in Miami this past weekend, which means he could not  have been present to attend a free-agent summit with LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

According to a report from ESPN, Wade, James and Bosh all met over the weekend to discuss the possibility of the three All-Stars signing together to play for the Heat.

Two of Wade's representatives said the Heat's free-agent-in-waiting spent the weekend in Chicago and that news about the summit is false.

Brian Windhorst of The Plain Dealer reports on his Twitter page that, according to a source, James was in New York over the weekend.

In response to his refuted report, Chris Broussard wrote that both he and partner Marc Stein had multiple sources who saw the players in question in Miami on Saturday.

Bulls May Not Even Meet With Wade

Jun 29, 2010 7:46 AM

It was reported on Monday that Dwyane Wade would cover all his bases by scheduling meetings with teams, including the Bulls, once he becomes a free agent on Thursday at midnight.

However, Mike McGraw of the Daily Herald writes that the Bulls don't have a meeting scheduled with the Wade, according to a source close to the team.

When Chicago started clearing cap space for 2010 they felt as though they had a reasonable shot at signing Wade, but they now see such a pursuit as a waste of time.

Wade was critical of the Bulls a few weeks ago, claiming they're not loyal to their former players.
