Miles Bridges Inquire With Hornets On Pulling Qualifying Offer

Jun 30, 2023 4:52 PM

Miles Bridges and his agents at Klutch Sports have broached the possibility of the Charlotte Hornets pulling his qualifying offer, sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

Bridges sat out last season following his domestic violence arrest and subsequent felony no contest plea. The NBA retroactively suspended Bridges with a portion of those games applied to last season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been linked with Bridges though they can only offer the Midlevel Exception.

Cavaliers Interested In Miles Bridges

Jun 29, 2023 11:18 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in Miles Bridges in restricted free agency.

Bridges was not signed during the 2022 offseason following his domestic violence arrest and subsequent no contest plea. Bridges received a 30-game suspension with a portion applied to the 22-23 season.

Bridges received a $7.9 million qualifying offer from the Charlotte Hornets, which gives them match rights.

The Cavaliers have the $12.4 million midlevel exception they could offer Bridges, but the Hornets would match. Bridges' camp expects to receive a more lucrative offer.

The Cavaliers have limited trade assets available on a potential sign-and-trade.

Hornets Made 'Concerted Effort' To Create Trade Interest In No. 2 On Draft Day

Jun 28, 2023 2:35 PM

On the day of the draft, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the Charlotte Hornets were still considering drafting Scoot Henderson despite for weeks being linked with Brandon Miller. The Hornets brought in both players on Monday of that week for follow-up meetings and workouts.

"Can I say one thing about the Scoot, Brandon stuff?" said Jake Fischer on the Basketball Illuminati Podcast. "There definitely was word Thursday morning. I got a text from Houston. And Portland had been checking in with me throughout the draft about what Charlotte was trying to do here. There was definitely a late rumbling, let's say, sent from Charlotte out to other actors in the NBA world. Like 'We're still considering Scoot here.'

"I do think that was a last ditch effort to try to get Portland to trade up from three to two to take Scoot. I think that's where all this came from. I don't think this was done [with] betting markets, conspiracy, blah, blah, blah. I think the Hornets tried to get a little savvy... And as I tweeted out, as I wrote in my book, Mitch Kupchak back in 2015, when he was GM of the Lakers, had the No. 2 pick. D'Angelo Russell and Jahlil Okafor were there two top choices. And they refused to tell two pretty powerful agents, Aaron Mintz at CAA for D'Angelo Russell, and Bill Duffy now at WME for Jahlil Okafor, they just refused to tell either side what they were going to do.

"I believe the Hornets did not tell Brandon Miller or Scoot until right on the clock that they were going either direction to continue that misdirection, mystery or whatever you call. I think it was a concerted effort by the Hornets to drum up some trade interest there."

Hornets 'Remain Steadfast' Preferring Brandon Miller Over Scoot Henderson At No. 2

Jun 22, 2023 7:04 PM

The Charlotte Hornets are choosing between Brandon Miller and Scoot Henderson at No. 2, and the franchise has been leaning towards Miller throughout the process.

"I'm told the Charlotte Hornets remain steadfast with Brandon Miller," said Adrian Wojnarowski.

The support for Miler has been "overwhelming" within the Hornets, reports Wojnarowski.

Earlier on Thursday, Shams Charania reported that Henderson was "gaining momentum" for the Hornets at No. 2 and they were "torn" over the decision.

The Portland Trail Blazers are expected to pick whichever player remains on the board between Miller and Henderson at No. 3.

Jeremy Woo reports that Henderson "endeared himself to Charlotte," but that Miller is considered the better fit.

Scoot Henderson To Hornets At No. 2 'Gaining Serious Momentum'

Jun 22, 2023 12:16 PM

The possibility of the Charlotte Hornets to selecting Scoot Henderson with the No. 2 pick is "gaining serious momentum," sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Hornets have been "torn" between Henderson and Brandon Miller with many believing they preferred Miller. The team will have final meetings on Thursday ahead of the draft to settle on a decision.

Henderson and Miller were both in Charlotte on Monday to meet withe Hornets.

"It's really been 50/50 in all these days," said Charania on the Pat McAfee Show. "As close of a selection as you're going to get."

The Portland Trail Blazers select No. 3 and Miller would be a more natural fit with their current roster.

Zion Williamson Unlikely To Be Traded With Hornets, Blazers Expected To Keep Picks

Jun 22, 2023 11:52 AM

The New Orleans Pelicans have interest in Scoot Henderson, but it appears as though both the Charlotte Hornets and Portland Trail Blazers will keep their top-3 picks. The Hornets are expected to select Brandon Miller, while the Blazers would then pick Henderson.

The Pelicans were not prepared to trade Zion Williamson in any scenario outside of a move for Henderson.

"It's really the same it's been for the last week," said Brian Windhorst on First Take of a possible Williamson deal. "Seven to 10 days ago, the Pelicans showed interest in seeing if they could get a deal for either the No. 2 or No. 3 pick. We believe they really wanted Scoot Henderson...

"Mitch Kupchak came out yesterday and said 'We're not trading the pick. We're going to draft.'

"And the Blazers have pretty much told anybody's who called recently, and I know we're in disinformation time, but the Blazers have made it known they're going to pick.

"So those were the options for Zion. As far as I know, it wasn't like they were holding him out there and say 'Call and make an offer.'

"They were thinking what it would cost to move into the top-3 in this draft. That does not seem like it's going to happen. I believe Zion Williamson is going to remain a Pelican. I don't think it was ever seriously close to him not. I just think there were discussions that were made and that's why it got out there."

If the Blazers keep the pick, many teams around the league are waiting for the reaction of Damian Lillard as he wants the team to be in win-now mode.

Brandon Miller 'Further Solidified' Himself As Probable Choice For Hornets At No. 2

Jun 20, 2023 10:32 PM

Brandon Miller has long been expected to be the probable choice of the Charlotte Hornets at No. 2 and that appears to be crystalizing as the draft quickly approaches.

"I'm told that Alabama's Brandon Miller further solidified his standing as Charlotte's choice at No. 2 with a workout and meetings he had in Charlotte [on Monday]," said Adrian Wojnarowski on Sports Center. "This is the first time that Michael Jordan, the outgoing majority owner in Charlotte, had a chance to watch Miller in person, to sit down and meet with him."

Miller and Henderson were each flown to Charlotte to meet with the franchise.

"I'm told Miller was better the second time around in that environment than he had been the first time," added Wojnarowski.

The positional clarity that comes from drafting Miller appears to be a factor as there would be some level of overlap at point guard with Henderson and LaMelo Ball.

"Brandon Miller continues to be the focus of the Hornets at No. 2," said Wojnarowski.
