Evan Fournier On Recovering From COVID-19: 'You Have To Push Through It'

Apr 24, 2021 1:36 PM

Evan Fournier discussed his recovery from COVID-19, saying that ramping up activity was the most difficult part of the experience.

Fournier, who has been out since April 4, missed all seven shots in the Celtics 109-104 loss on Friday night.

"My experience -- where do I start? The first two days I was doing great, no symptoms at all, and then flu-like symptoms, high fever, really tired, fatigue, all that. I honestly stayed in bed and slept for four or five days. The roughest part was ramping up the activity. The last two days of practice was really hard. I had moments where I was doing good and moments where I was exhausted," said Fournier.

Friday night was Fournier's fifth game with the Celtics since getting traded from the Magic.

Brad Stevens said that he expected Fournier to struggle as he got his wind back.

"Yeah, he's going to probably, very likely at least, going to struggle, and we just don't have time to practice. He's got to play, he's got to get himself up to speed.

"Evan obviously couldn't make a shot, but I just asked him how he felt. He said he was pretty winded out there. So that was not a huge surprise. But it is good to get him those minutes, and I don't think he'll have many games like that."

Brad Stevens On Jabari Parker: 'We're Going To Be Patient In Bringing Him Along'

Apr 18, 2021 12:17 AM

Brad Stevens said he saw Jabari Parker as more than a stop-gap after the Boston Celtics signed Parker to a two-year deal.

“This is, as you saw by the details that came out, is a plan beyond this year. We’re going to be patient in bringing him along," said Stevens on Saturday.

Stevens said he saw Parker as a power forward or as a small-ball center.

“We’re looking mostly at him as a guy who can play some four (power forward) for us but also some small-ball five (center) in some lineups.

"Especially around some of our better players as a ball mover, as a passer, as a playmaker, as a driver, as a guy that can put the ball in the basket and is a real threat to put the ball in the basket," added Stevens.

Parker scored 11 points in 16 minutes in his Celtics debut, a 119-114 win over the Warriors.

Jayson Tatum Uses Inhaler Before Games Since Contracting COVID-19

Apr 14, 2021 11:27 AM

Jayson Tatum revealed he now uses an inhaler before games due to the lingering effects of contracting COVID-19.

“I take an inhaler before the game since I’ve tested positive,” Tatum said. “This has kind of helped with that and opened up my lungs and, you know, I never took an inhaler before. So that’s something different. I for sure feel better now than I did a month ago.”

Tatum said Celtics trainers have not indicated when he can stop using the inhaler.

Tatum also said he is "very close" to 100 percent after contracting COVID-19 back in January. Tatum missed nearly three weeks.

In early March, Tatum told reporters he still didn’t feel 100 percent nearly two full months after he was first diagnosed.

“I’ve talked to guys that said it took months for them to kind of catch their breath, and get their wind back. And I think I’m kind of on the same track with that,” Tatum said. “I for sure feel better. I don’t feel necessarily the same before I got it when I was playing. I definitely know there’s a difference. But I feel pretty good.”
