Isaia Cordinier To Play For Antibes Instead Of Hawks For 16-17

Jul 18, 2016 12:51 PM

Isaia Cordinier will return to France to play in the French Pro A League for the 16-17 season with Antibes.

Cordinier was picked 40th overall by the Atlanta Hawks.

A team picking in the top half of the second round reneged on a promise to select Cordinier. Cordinier had wanted to come to the NBA immediately but he'll now likely join the Hawks for the 17-18 season.

Hawks' Interest Made Dwight Howard Feel 'Really Good About Himself Again'

Jul 13, 2016 11:17 AM

Dwight Howard is looking forward to his new opportunity with the Atlanta Hawks.

"Grant Hill was a big part of the process," Howard said of the former All-Star and current minority owner of the franchise.

"For somebody like [Hill] to believe in me, [Hawks general] Wes Wilcox and Bud (Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer) -- for all of these guys to have that belief in me just gave me more confidence.

"After the season, I was a little bit down for a couple days," Howard admitted. He credits the Hawks' interest when free agency began July 1 to help him start feeling "really good about myself again."

Hawks Waive Lamar Patterson

Jul 12, 2016 6:16 PM

The Atlanta Hawks have waived Lamar Patterson.

Patterson had a non-guaranteed contract and the roster move allows the Hawks to complete the signings of Dwight Howard and Kris Humphries.

Patterson has been playing for the Hawks in Summer League.

There is a good chance that another NBA team claims Patterson, who had an $874,636 contract for next season.

Al Horford Had No Issue With Dwight Howard, Atlanta's Fans

Jul 12, 2016 10:19 AM

Al Horford said he had no plans with the fans in Atlanta and was unhappy with his father suggesting that was a possible reason for him signing with the Boston Celtics.

"That made me really upset," he said. "I was angry when I heard about that because I never felt that way. I've been here a long time. I've actually gotten to know a lot of our fans, a lot of our season-ticket holders with the Hawks. They've always been great to me. I've always been very content and happy with the way they've treated me and my family.

"Parents are sometimes a little more passionate about their sons and daughters. I can relate because I have a son now. So my dad, with him, sometimes he would come to the games and get frustration. His frustrations don't reflect on me with the fan base."

The other issue Horford cleared up was the possibility of playing with Dwight Howard as members of the Atlanta Hawks.

"No, no, no. Not at all. I don't have a problem with Dwight at all," Horford told the Journal-Constitution. "I think that he is a great player and he has a lot of ability and a lot of potential. It has nothing to do with not wanting to play with Dwight. I don't know if you remember but there was a time when I wanted to play power forward. With a guy like him, that would have been easier. It had nothing to do with Dwight. He's a good guy."

Horford's first option as free agency began was to re-sign with Atlanta.

"I started to see that when the team stepped up and did what they had to do, I didn't think we were on the same page," he told the newspaper. "That's when I was forced to start looking at other options."

Hawks Preferred Horford Over Millsap In Part Due To $9M Difference In 17-18 Salary

Jul 7, 2016 12:02 PM

The Atlanta Hawks' preferred plan in the offseason was to sign Dwight Howard, re-sign Al Horford and trade away Paul Millsap.

The Hawks would retain a quality frontcourt in signing Howard and Horford while collecting assets by trading away Millsap.

Atlanta preferred Horford on his contract as it will be approximately $9 million per year less than what Millsap figures to make next offseason. Horford's starting salary with Boston will be about $26.5 million, while Millsap could start at around $35 million since he is a player with 10 or more years of experience.

Atlanta discussed Millsap trades with Phoenix, Denver, Toronto and Houston.

Al Horford Had 'Major Reservations' About Playing With Dwight Howard

Jul 7, 2016 10:44 AM

The Atlanta Hawks agreed to sign Dwight Howard as free agency opened, but Al Horford had "major reservations" about playing with him.

Horford was seeking a five-year, $153 million contract with the Hawks at his full max but the team never budged and he instead agreed to sign with the Boston Celtics.

The Hawks were planning on trading away Paul Millsap in order to accommodate Howard and the re-signed Horford.

Horford had spent his entire career since being drafted in 2007 with the Hawks.
