Feb 27, 2009 9:58 PM

Al Horford did something the Hawks hadn't done in eight years -- recorded a 20 point, 20 rebound game.

Horford finished Friday's game against the Heat with 21 points and 22 rebounds.

The last time a Hawks' player put up such a performance was Dikembe Mutombo, who tallied 21 points and 29 rebounds against the Toronto Raptors on January 31, 2001.

Horford played 43 minutes and helped lead the team to a 91-83 win over division rival Miami.

Josh Smith Could Face Suspension For Foul

Feb 25, 2009 10:13 AM

Hawks forward Josh Smith may face a suspension stemming from a foul on Jazz forward Matt Harpring in Monday night's game.

Smith knocked Harpring to the floor on a fast break, and Harpring's head hit the floor in the process. The players had to be restrained following the foul.

"I don't think Josh had any harm in it," Hawks center Al Horford said. "I think that the way that [Harpring] landed is what really caused [it]. He landed fine and then hit his head. I don't think Josh is a dirty player, it was just unfortunate that it happened."

Smith didn't comment, but Harpring said the reaction was instinctual.

"That was one of those that hurt," he said. "Every time I get knocked down like that a voice goes off in my head, 'Get up.' It just goes back to what my dad said in football ? never act like you are hurt."

Atlanta will await the NBA's decision heading into their game on Wednesday night.

Sund Will Evaluate Hawks After Season

Feb 21, 2009 5:52 PM

Hawks general manager Rick Sund didn't swing a trade prior to Thursday's deadline, and has reiterated that he won't evaluate the team until after the season.

"My feelings are consistent with what I've said all along, that this season is a barometer. We'll analyze it when it's all over," Sund said.

Atlanta was 32-23 after Friday's action, and held a three-game lead over Miami for fourth place in the East

Once the season is over, Sund will decide whether or not some significant changes are needed in Atlanta.

"We have a lot of options - but that's a good thing, not a bad thing. We're like every other team in the league. Look at the Lakers: Kobe [Bryant] can opt out next year. [Steve] Nash and [Dirk] Nowitzki can be free agents in the next year or two. Everybody is keeping contracts short-term now. A lot of teams may be shuffling the deck."

GM Sund Travels With Hawks On Road

Feb 18, 2009 4:21 PM

Hawks general manager Rick Sund has joined the team on their current five-game Western road trip as Thursday's trade deadline looms.

Sund has reportedly been working the phones to make sure there isn't a deal out there that would help Atlanta improve.

"I don't think it forces your hand," Sund said of the NBA's current climate. "This is always a time on your calendar when you need to assess. The truth is, sometimes trades take 10 months to a year to come to fruition and other times they come together in a short period of time. So there is always a dialogue going on. Because either way, you always have to be prepared."

Josh Smith Won't Try For Dunk Title

Feb 7, 2009 9:52 AM

Hawks forward Josh Smith was invited to participate in next weekend's slam dunk contest, but decided not to take part for a variety of reasons.

"First and foremost I'm just not healthy enough for something like that," Smith said. "You have to be at your best to compete in something like that. All-Star Weekend is actually a chance to rest your body for a few days and get totally away from everything before recharging and getting ready for the second half push."

Smith has missed twelve games this season with an ankle sprain.
