Bibby Unaware Of Serious Trade Rumors

Nov 30, 2008 6:01 PM

Mike Bibby is unaware of any serious trade discussions involving him leaving Atlanta and claims that the media creates a majority of rumors.

Yahoo! Sports reported over the weekend that the Hawks were involved in talks with the Blazers about a deal involving Bibby.

"What the hell is Yahoo Sports?" Bibby said in jest on Saturday night. "That's news to me Sekou [Smith, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution]. I never heard anything like that ... you and the rest of the damn media always making stuff up."

Smith May Return Wednesday For Hawks

Nov 30, 2008 5:44 PM

Hawks' forward Josh Smith hopes to return from a 12-game layoff on Wednesday when the team takes on the Grizzlies.

Smith suffered a high left ankle sprain on Nov. 7 against the Raptors.

"I'm ready to go right now," Smith said before Saturday's game. "But if the guys that know [the Hawks' athletic training staff] think I should wait a couple more games, I have to go with it."

Atlanta was 4-0 with Smith and are roughly .500 without him.

Hawks' Smith Close To Return

Nov 27, 2008 4:57 PM

Atlanta forward Josh Smith will travel with the team this weekend when they go to Toronto and Washington on consecutive nights.

That leads many to believe that he could return to the court for the first time since he injured his left ankle on Nov. 7.

"He?s definitely on his way back," Coach Mike Woodson said. "We?ll work him some on this trip and work him some just to see where he is. But I?d rather see him practice in a big setting with everybody on the floor going up and down versus just these little bitty one-hour practices to try and get him ready to get back going.

"I?m not saying he?s going to play this weekend. But we?re going to make sure he?s with us [on the road] so we can gauge where he is and go from there."

Wright Had A Hard Time Leaving Hawks

Nov 22, 2008 9:53 AM

Lorenzen Wright, currently with the Cavaliers, had a hard time handling a midseason trade last February that sent him from Atlanta to Sacramento.

"There were so many young guys, I was like a big brother," Wright said Friday. "I was sad to leave because there was about a month left in the regular season, and I knew we were going to make it to the playoffs for the first time [in a long time], and I wanted to be a part of that."

Wright was a part of the trade that sent Mike Bibby to the Hawks.

"I think they're a very underestimated team," Wright, who signed with the Cavs as a free agent last summer, said of the Hawks. "They're inconsistent because they're young. But they've got some really good players on that team. Joe Johnson is second to none: a great scorer, a great finisher, a great shooter. Josh Smith is really athletic, and he can shoot the ball as well. Al Horford is a talent. I watched him in college, and I liked him. I thought he was one of the best to come out of that draft.

"Mike Woodson is a really good coach, a player's coach. He understands the young guys and really gets along with the young guys. He's got a good system. The young guys come in, and they work hard every day. That's one thing I can say about them. He gets them ready to play."

Bibby: Hawks Are Playing Better Defense

Nov 16, 2008 3:35 PM

Hawks' point guard Mike Bibby is proud of the fact that the team is playing better defense this season.

"Our defense is better this year," Bibby said. "We're helping out more, trusting each other more. Everything happens when you're older."

Ray Allen, whose Celtics the Hawks almost eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last spring, sees an improvement as well.

"They discovered a lot about themselves in the playoffs," Allen said. "I said at the end of the year I would be disappointed if they didn't come out and build off the playoffs from last year."

Lakers, Jazz, And Hawks Atop Team Rankings

Nov 10, 2008 5:38 PM

RealGM's weekly NBA team rankings are objectively measured through the use of our Floor Impact Counter metric.

Team: 08-09 FIC Differential (Improvement from 07-08)

1. Los Angeles Lakers: 37.0 (+22.6)

The Lakers are first both offensively and defensively in points per 100 possessions.

2. Utah Jazz: 23.6 (+7.5)

The Jazz have been boosted by a weak schedule (home and home against Clippers) to offset the Deron Williams injury, but the loss at New York to start a five-game road trip that normally would be a 4-1 stretch could turn into a 1-4 or even 0-5 setback.

3. Atlanta Hawks: 19.7 (+20.7)

Since his 0-6 3-point shooting night against Orlando to open the season, Mike Bibby has shot 11-23 to spread opposing defenses for the undefeated Hawks.

4. Miami Heat: 17.1 (+32.6)

The Heat are +6.8 in turnover differential per game.  That over/under win total of 33.5 looks even more of the lock that it did a few weeks ago.

5. Orlando Magic: 17.0 (+10.0)

Following surprising losses against Atlanta and Memphis to start the season, they have rattled off four straight wins, but the backcourt remains an area where they will be outplayed on most nights.
