LaMelo Ball Reportedly 'Not Performing Very Well' During Interviews

Oct 30, 2020 1:05 AM

Lamelo Ball is reportedly struggling during his pre-draft interviews, sources told Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer.

"Here is what I’m hearing from the league at large: LaMelo Ball is not performing very well at job interviews. I’ve heard that from multiple sources. He is not improving his perception via job interview.

"There are people drafting later in the top ten who were not preparing for the possibility of Ball still being around ... there are teams later in the top ten who are doing more research on him," said Bonnell on Sports Radio WFNZ (h/t Pro Basketball Talk).

Ball met with the Wolves on Tuesday, and will interview with the Warriors next week.

No First Round Picks Expected To Be Sold Despite Drop In Revenues

Oct 29, 2020 2:14 PM

NBA teams have largely moved away selling first round picks over the past decade as the league's financials have improved across the board since the 2011 CBA that made the revenue split for favorable for owners and also the spike in revenues from far larger national television contracts.

The Denver Nuggets were the last team to sell a first round pick when in 2013 they sold the pick that would become Rudy Gobert to the Utah Jazz.

With the league's revenues down due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, selling draft picks could be an easy way for financially tenuous teams to generate instant revenue and is something teams are monitoring heading into the November 18th draft.

"People are interested to see how the draft unfolds this year in a pandemic where a lot of teams are losing money," said Zach Lowe on his podcast. "Like, will some teams sell draft picks? I don't think we'll see a first round pick sold. The fallout from that is so negative with your fanbase. But I do think we'll see teams at the bottom of the first round try to trade for future first rounders to get out of the obligation now, but not sell, sell. Second rounders thought they'll sell."

The Charlotte Hornets draft third overall and would like to select James Wiseman and would consider trading up for him.

Both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors are open to trading down from No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The Hornets could offer the 32nd overall pick and future selections.

Anthony Edwards is considered the backup plan if Wiseman isn't available to the Hornets.

Warriors, Hornets Believed To Prefer James Wiseman

Oct 27, 2020 11:36 AM

The Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets are believed to prefer James Wiseman.

The Warriors select No. 2 with the Hornets at No. 3, which means Charlotte could need to trade up with either the Minnesota Timberwolves or Golden State to select him.

Kevin O'Connor suggests the cost of moving up could be similar to when the Philadelphia 76ers traded No. 3 and a future first from the Sacramento Kings to the Boston Celtics for No. 1, which became the Markelle Fultz for Jayson Tatum trade.

Wiseman entered the draft season as the top rated prospect but he played in just three games at Memphis.

Knicks Collecting 'A Ton' Of Information On Devin Vassell

Oct 27, 2020 1:33 AM

The New York Knicks are reportedly in regular contact with people around Devin Vassell and are collecting "a ton" on the Florida State sophomore, according to teams monitoring Vassell's situation.

Vassell averaged 12.7 points and 5.1 rebounds last season.

He is currently ranked No. 11 in ESPN's Best Available, with the Knicks having the eighth pick in the upcoming draft.

In regards to a video posted recently showing Vassell's shooting form, Florida State assistant CY Young said that the player has not altered his shot.

“Because he’s shooting from so far back, he’s sling-shotting it from over his head. Because it’s way deep. It was a (mess around) half-court shot. He always had kind of a high release but he hasn’t changed his shot. He doesn’t bring it back that far. He has not changed his shot at all," said Young.

Vassell shot over 41% from 3 in his college career.
