Kings Narrow Finalists To Mike Brown, Steve Clifford, Mark Jackson

Apr 30, 2022 9:17 PM

The Sacramento Kings have narrowed down their list of head coach candidates. ESPN has reported that the Kings are considering former head coaches Mike Brown and Steve Clifford. The Athletic reported that former head coach and current ESPN broadcaster Mark Jackson is also on the list.

Sacramento GM Monte McNair has reportedly begun to inform candidates who are moving to the in-person interview phase.

Brown last led a team in 2014, when he was the coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. For the last six season, Brown has worked on Steve Kerr's staff with the Golden State Warriors.

Clifford has coached both the Charlotte Hornets and Orlando Magic. He was let go by Orlando in 2021. He's been working as a consultant to the Brooklyn Nets this season.

Mark Jackson coached the Golden State Warriors for three seasons and holds a career winning percentage of .526. Jackson has worked as a lead broadcaster for ESPN since the Warriors let him go after the 2014 season.

Nuggets Will Pay Luxury Tax 'If The Team Is Good Enough'

May 1, 2022 11:09 AM

The Denver Nuggets are poised to bounce back to contention with a healthy roster in 2023. To get there, the team will also need to add some help on their roster, and it appears Nuggets ownership is willing to pay to do so.

In his season-ending media availability, Nuggets president of basketball operations Tim Connelly said that the team's governors have given him clear direction on paying the luxury tax.

“If the team is good enough, they’ll pay accordingly. So, I don’t think that will be any sort of issue moving forward," Connelly said. "I mean, we're getting really, really expensive. It's a blessing and a curse because you're paying really good players."

The Nuggets have made only minimal tax payments in their history. And Denver hasn't been over the tax line since 2010. Denver is essentially at the tax line for next season with only eight players under contract. This puts them in position to pay the tax for the first time in over a decade.

Karl-Anthony Towns: Things Will Happen This Summer

Apr 30, 2022 9:40 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves may have fallen in six games to the Memphis Grizzlies, but Karl-Anthony Towns remains bullish on his team's future. When asked about signing an extension with the Wolves, Towns was hopeful it would get done.

“I love this city. So, obviously things will happen this summer. When they happen, they happen. I've been here so long. I don’t like making prophecies. I’ll let it come if it comes. And if it comes, it comes, then we’ll deal with it when it comes," Towns said. "Just take every day, I’ve been here long enough to know that everyday things can change, so just be happy with where everything is at right now."

Towns added that he was tired from a tough, physical series. But that he's appreciative of the support he had this season.

“These guys did a lot for me coaching staff, teammates, this city, these fans," Towns said. "Just extremely honored to be in this position, to be wearing this jersey, representing the city and the state."

Zion Williamson Intends To Sign Max Extension With Pelicans If Offered

Apr 29, 2022 3:09 PM

Zion Williamson plans to sign an extension with the New Orleans Pelicans this offseason if he's offered it by the franchise.

"Of course," Williamson said. "I couldn't sign it fast enough."

Williamson is eligible to sign a five-year, $181 million max rookie extension this summer. The deal could be elevated should Williamson make an All-NBA team in 2023.

Williamson started playing 5-on-5 with teammates and coaches late in the season and into New Orleans' playoff run. Williamson was never cleared to play actual games as a decision was collectively made to prioritize his long-term health.

Donovan Mitchell On Trade Talk: I'll Think About That In A Week

Apr 29, 2022 10:05 AM

The Utah Jazz season ended in disappointment with a first round loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Almost immediately after the Game 6 loss, speculation started about Utah's future, especially with star guard Donovan Mitchell.

When asked if he wants to stay with the Jazz, Mitchell initially responded "Yeah, I do." When pressed about rumors involving him asking for a trade, Mitchell expanded his thoughts.

"My mindset is to win. Like I said, right now, I'm not looking at (asking for a trade). For me, I just want to win, yo. This hurts. Like I said, I’ll think about it in a week and go from there, but right now, I’m not really thinking about any of that."

Mitchell just completed the first year of a five-year max deal. He has four more years under contract, with the final season in 25-26 being a player option.

Nikola Jokic Plans To Sign Supermax With Nuggets In Offseason

Apr 28, 2022 7:19 AM

Nikola Jokic plans to sign the supermax extension worth $254 million over five years if he's offered it this offseason by the Denver Nuggets.

"I would like it, of course," Jokic said when asked about a contract extension. "But it's not something that I'm deciding. I think if [the] offer is on the table, of course I'm going to accept it because I really like the organization, I really like the people who works here. I'm in [a] really good relationship with everybody from [the] owner to equipment manager."

Jokic and the Nuggets were eliminated from the playoffs by the Golden State Warriors in a close Game 5.

Jokic is widely expected to win MVP for the second straight season.

Lakers' Front Office Internally Blaming Klutch For Russell Westbrook Trade

Apr 27, 2022 5:51 PM

The front office of the Los Angeles Lakers is internally blaming pressure from Klutch Sports for their acquisition of Russell Westbrook during the 2021 offseason, multiple sources tell Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.

Klutch Sports represents both LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who met with Westbrook and reportedly pushed for the trade.

Westbrook was a bad fit with the Lakers when sharing the floor with James and Davis, while also unable to win games without them as the lead star.

Westbrook has one season remaining on his contract with the Lakers and the franchise will likely need to attach future draft capital to him in order to acquire a useful player in return via trade.

Pistons Hope To Sign Marvin Bagley To Three-Year Deal In Restricted Free Agency

Apr 27, 2022 3:30 PM

The Detroit Pistons traded for Marvin Bagley Jr. at the deadline and sources tell James L. Edwards III that they would like to re-sign him to a long-term contract this offseason in restricted free agency.

The Pistons would ideally like to sign Bagley to a three-year deal.

Bagley, however, could prefer a shorter term deal to get back on the market earlier if he finally fulfills the talent that saw him selected No. 2 in 2018.

The Pistons appeared to value Bagley more than any other team during the efforts of the Sacremanteo Kings to trade him.

CJ McCollum Plans To Retire With Pelicans, Eligible For Extension On Aug. 9

Apr 27, 2022 3:25 PM

CJ McCollum has been with the New Orleans Pelicans for less than three months, but he is already fully committed to the franchise.

“I’m not going nowhere. I’m here,” McCollum recently told Andscape. “Where am I going to go? Leave for what? I want to retire here. I’m 30 years old and I have a son who is 13 weeks old. I’m married. When you have something good, you hold on to it. This is something fun for both sides. We’re going to grow. I’m still learning the city. I’m going to find a house.”

McCollum and the Pelicans reached the playoffs out of the Play-In despite not having Zion Williamson in the lineup.

McCollum will be eligible for a three-year contract extension on August 9th.

"I can’t say anything about that," said McCollum. "We haven’t talked yet. I haven’t talked to upper management. But I told my wife before I left [Portland] that ‘Wherever I go, I want to finish my career. New Orleans is on the list of places I would like to finish my career.’ I told my agent that. I’m not about bouncing around. I don’t go through free agency. I’ve been in the league nine years. Have you ever seen me be a free agent?

"When I’m committed to something, I’m committed to it. New Orleans, in my mind, I’m finishing my career here. That is how I devote myself to a city, things and people."
