Kenyon Martin Would 'Love' To Remain With Knicks

Mar 31, 2013 6:30 PM

It took longer than expected for Kenyon Martin to find an NBA home this season, but the veteran forward is glad he landed with the New York Knicks.

"I would love to stay a Knick," he said. "I don't want to go nowhere. I am proving to this organization what I can be and who I am as a person on and off the court, and I think they see that. I'm here now and I'm going to make the best of this opportunity."

The Knicks are 13-6 since Martin first played for the team on Feb. 24.

Jodie Meeks Confident Lakers Are Long-Term Fit

Mar 31, 2013 4:51 PM

MILWAUKEE – Jodie Meeks has been a critical role player for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, spacing the floor and providing versatility and durability at the wing position. In Meeks’ mind, he views the Lakers as a long-term fit and believes there’s a solid chance he’ll stay through at least next season’s team option in his contract.

“Yeah, I think so,” Meeks told RealGM when asked if he believes he will be part of the Lakers beyond this season. “You can’t really worry about that right now, just finish out this year. I’ll do that and see whatever happens.”

After playing sparingly under Mike Brown early in the season, Meeks is now averaging 8.1 points on 36.5 percent shooting from three-point range. His best stretch came in Mike D’Antoni’s first full month as head coach, posting 11.1 points per game in December.

“[D’Antoni] gives us a lot of confidence,” Meeks said. “Just playing well, he gives you a lot of freedom, so I’m glad he’s my coach.

“It’s a lot different [than Brown’s system]. Obviously I’ve been playing a lot, but Mike allows me to play well.”

Iguodala Likely To Opt Out Of Contract With Nuggets

Mar 30, 2013 11:25 PM

Andre Iguodala is likely to exercise the opt-out clause in his contact after this season.

Opting out would enable Iguodala to obtain a multi-year deal elsewhere or possibly lengthen his commitment to the Nuggets.

“You got to weigh options,” Iguodala said. “Security-wise, a player would opt, especially with the type of season we’ve had as a team. Teams know what I can bring to them, and I know (the Nuggets) know what I can bring to a team here.

“Players get like $50, $60 or $70 or $80 (million over multiple years), whatever the number was, they gave up a big number (in an option season by opting out). But in the grand scheme of things, pretty much get it back. You got security.’’

Iguodala declined to guarantee he would re-sign with Denver.

“Obviously, it’s a business, so you’re going to look at your options,” Iguodala said. “Here we have some good (prospects). But I’m not making any promises.”

Pacers-Suns Game Could Make Sibling History

Mar 30, 2013 3:18 PM

A seemingly meaningless Saturday night game between the Indiana Pacers and Phoenix Suns could make NBA history in a unique way.

The Suns feature the Morris brothers -- Marcus and Markieff -- while the Pacers have Tyler and Ben Hansbrough.

Ben Hansbrough doesn't always get off the bench, but if he does, it would be the first game in NBA history to feature two pairs of brothers.

This is the first season since the NBA was still the BAA back in 1946 that the league has fielded more than one team with a pair of siblings on their rosters.

When the Suns acquired Marcus Morris from the Houston Rockets in February, the Morris twins became just the 10th pair of brothers on the same team. The Hansbroughs were the ninth when Ben made the Pacers out of training camp.

Korver Wants To Sign With Winning Team, Hopes To Play Five More Years

Mar 30, 2013 12:16 PM

Kyle Korver figures to get his share of offers on the unrestricted free-agent market this summer.

“I think I have still got, lord willing and no injuries, four or five good years, but you never know, we’ll see,” Korver said. “At this stage of my career, to be on a bad team, I just don’t want any part of that. It is good to be here. It is always good to be in the playoffs. The playoffs are a whole other world. It is a different game. It is where you make the memories. I want to play in a good culture on a good team.”

Korver, now in his 10th season, credits his longevity to a healthy lifestyle.

“You keep on getting experience. You keep on getting smarter. You learn the little tricks of the trade,” Korver said. “I don’t depend on jumping over people and running by everyone. I stay in great shape and always keep on moving, but I don’t have to necessarily hit a certain speed all the time. I feel the best I have felt in several years. One of things you learn how to do is take care of yourself and that is something I pay a lot of attention to.”

Kerr Foresaw Stoudemire's Knee Troubles

Mar 30, 2013 11:57 AM

Steve Kerr agreed with the Phoenix Suns' decision not to extend a maximum contract offer to A’mare Stoudemire.

“Yeah, I was on board with it,” said Kerr, the former general manager of the Suns.

The Suns’ medical staff believed Stoudemire was a medical risk not worth taking.

“What I remember is our orthopedic surgeon Tom Carter saying that generally after six to eight years after a player has a microfracture there could be problems,” Kerr said. “We calculated he had a couple of good years left and that the back end of the contract could be a problem.

“You never know for sure but you go with your experts and in this case it was Dr. Carter.”

Thibodeau Still Hasn't Formally Signed Extension With Bulls

Mar 30, 2013 1:15 PM

The Chicago Bulls announced a four-year contract extension worth more than $17.5 million for Tom Thibodeau on Oct. 1, but the coach still hasn't signed the deal.

"The deal's done," Thibodeau insists.

Nevertheless, he wouldn't acknowledge that it had been signed because that still hasn't happened, according to several sources.

Back in his assistant coaching days with the Boston Celtics, his contracts lingered unsigned, too.

Sources: Stu Jackson Angling For Return To Front Office Job

Mar 30, 2013 4:06 AM

Stu Jackson has served as the NBA's vice president of basketball operations since 2007, but now he is pursuing a return to the front office of a team, according to sources.

The NBA could have a dramatic restructuring in its front office next year when David Stern steps down as commissioner.

Jackson was an NBA head coach for three seasons, from 1989-91 with the New York Knicks and in 1996-97 with the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Hollins, Randolph Shrug Off Rumors Of Friction

Mar 29, 2013 11:06 AM

There is a growing belief that Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins and forward Zach Randolph aren't on the same page, but both men dispelled the notion on Thursday.

"Our relationship is fine," Randolph said. "I respect my coach."

The Grizzlies fell behind by 30 points in a loss to the New York Knicks on Wednesday, during which the opposing broadcasters suggested there was a riff between Hollins and Randolph.

"The only beef I had with Zach is he was excessively late for a shootaround that started at 4:30 p.m. (last Saturday)," Hollins said. "I told him I can't start you and he understood. Everybody's got their opinion about what goes on in our locker room. But only the people in there know. I haven't had a beef with Zach and he hasn't had one with me."

Hollins said any correlation between Randolph's recent poor performances and their relationship is off base because there are basketball reasons why Randolph has struggled lately.

"We're getting him the ball," Hollins said. "If you watch the games, we're getting him the ball. It's just now teams are taking him away. They're running three people at him and he's making passes. Other people are having to step up and try to do things. It's just the way it is."
