New Plan For Penn Station Could Keep Knicks From Moving MSG

Sep 30, 2016 12:08 PM

New York governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled plans for the Pennsylvania Station-Farley Complex, which may allow the city to keep Madison Square Garden in tact.

The plans call for a brand new, 255,000-square-foot train hall, which will accommodate both Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road passengers, that’s scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020.

"Madison Square Garden is Madison Square Garden," said Cuomo, who is not a supporter of moving the arena.

Relocating Madison Square Garden was previously estimated to cost $5 billion.

When Madison Square Garden was renovated in 2013 for $1 billion, it was given a 10-year permit.

Penn Station lost its main concourse to allow Madison Square Garden to be built in 1968 in a move that is widely considered a mistake for the city.

The New York Times proposed moving Madison Square Garden to the west end of the Farley Building and then hollowing out the current Garden as Penn Station's grand concourse.

Jerry Reinsdorf: Joakim Noah Not 'Frontline Guy Anymore'

Sep 9, 2016 2:06 PM

Joakim Noah left the Chicago Bulls this offseason to sign a four-year, $72 million deal with the New York Knicks.

The Bulls showed little interest, if any, in re-signing Noah.

“What we felt was it was time,” Jerry Reinsdorf told the Chicago Tribune. “We felt Joakim wasn’t going to be a frontline guy anymore. I was pretty confident that Pau (Gasol) was going to leave. So it was important for us to get the center in (Robin) Lopez.

"It was time for Derrick to go on and play someplace else and try to establish himself. (Gar Forman) and (John Paxson) were high on the Grant kid (Jerian). We thought that was the necessary first step no matter how we were going to go.”

Last season, Noah was limited to just 29 games due to injuries.
