Bucks sign Mason to an extension

The Bucks announced Monday that they had signed Mason to a three-year contract extension, meaning that the fourth-year player is signed through the 2006-'07 season. Financial terms were not released although, according to a league source, the extension is worth $21.699 million. Mason, whose salary is about $1.9 million this season, will make $6.429 million, $7.233 million and $8.037 million in the next three seasons.

Othella center of trade talk

"The Knicks have intensified their search to add a scorer after the Chicago Bulls rejected a deal earlier in the week that would have brought Jamal Crawford to New York, according to an Eastern Conference official."

Knicks President Scott Layden also been in talks with Toronto about dealing Othella Harrington for Morris Peterson.

It is also speculated that Milwaukee forward Toni Kukoc as a possibility for the Knicks.

Layden wants to trim down his roster from 16 to 15 players and wants to get a two-for-one deal to get it done.

"The lawyer representing Wolves guard Sam Cassell and former Milwaukee teammates Gary Payton and Jason Caffey in their assault case in Toronto will meet with the judge and prosecutors on or before Nov. 7. Julianna Greenspan, an attorney whose father Edward is handling the defense, said Friday that a trial date or preliminary inquiry will be scheduled at that time."

The players were involved in a fight outside a Toronto strip club this past April 11.

Caffey's release a 'mutual agreement'

It appears Milwaukee's Thursday release of Jason Caffey was something both sides wanted.

"It was kind of a mutual agreement," coach Terry Porter said Friday. "I think he wanted to try some other team, maybe. It was a mutual agreement, based on what happened last year."

"In another cost-cutting move, the Bucks announced Thursday that they had reached a contract settlement with veteran forward Jason Caffey and had requested waivers on him. Team officials had no further comment but the buyout agreement is thought to be similar to the one the team reached recently with forward Anthony Mason."
