Blake Griffin Spent Offseason Working On Three-Pointer

Sep 29, 2016 9:01 PM

Blake Griffin is hoping to add a three-point shot to his game this season.

Griffin has taken only 87 3-point shots in his last 182 games, hitting 32.2 percent of them.

Griffin said he shot more 3’s than he’s ever shot before during the offseason, nearly mirroring his work from the long mid-range.

If Griffin is able to shoot a respectable three-point shot, he would help the Clippers solve their spacing issues.

“I want to be someone who shoots from there confidently, for sure,” Griffin said. “A lot of us power forwards, our strength is inside or our versatility. You look at the best power forwards, Anthony Davis, LaMarcus (Aldridge), Draymond (Green) ... they can all shoot but they can all put the ball on the floor and they can all score inside. I don’t necessarily think falling in love with the 3-point shot is a good idea, but shooting it confidently from there is great.”

Green made 100 three-pointers last season, which helped the Warriors go small.

“The further out I can stretch, the more I can help open up the floor,” Griffin said.

Paul Pierce To Retire After 16-17 Season

Sep 26, 2016 11:24 AM

Paul Pierce has announced he will return to the Los Angeles Clippers for his 19th NBA season and then retire.

"This is it, my final season," Pierce wrote on The Players' Tribune. "It's time to move on from the game of basketball. Just like any difficult decision, I think you've got to be at peace with yourself. I'm at peace with retiring, but I've got one more ride left. One more season. One more opportunity."

Pierce averaged only 6.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game last season.

"With the Clippers, in the city where I grew up, I feel like I have that opportunity on a great team," Pierce wrote Monday. "We're hungry. We want to win a championship.

"After 18 NBA years, it's hard to believe I'll be playing in each arena for the last time. So I'm going to enjoy every practice, every bus ride, every team dinner, every time running out through the tunnel. I'm going to do my part to give us a shot at the ultimate goal."

Clippers Would Have Signed Kevin Garnett, Interested In Giving Him Post-Playing Role

Sep 23, 2016 9:34 PM

Doc Rivers would have had interest in the Los Angeles Clippers signing Kevin Garnett had he decided to continue his playing career with a team other than the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"He doesn't want to play," Rivers said. "I'm sure he won't play again. I think he realized, 'Why am I doing this?'

"I would have absolutely been interested in bringing him here. You always find a place for a guy like that, whose voice in the locker room is so strong, so clear, so impactful.

"He's such a great teacher in practice. He should start a course in leadership. The NBA should designate who the best player is on each team and then they could bring Kevin in and he could teach them how to be the best player and the best leader. Better yet, they could bring him and Tim [Duncan] in and they could teach it together and show people how it can be done in two completely opposite ways."

Garnett was encouraged by friend, confidant and former coach Flip Saunders to sign a two-year, $16 million contract with the Timberwolves in 2015.

Garnett was visibly upset when told Sam Mitchell would not be retained. His strained relationship with current owner Glen Taylor further deteriorated after Mitchell's ouster.

Taylor acknowledged this week that he hadn't spoken with Garnett for months.

Garnett will stay in the game in some capacity, Rivers confirmed, and said he's already thinking up ways to bring him into the Clippers fold. Garnett has a home in Malibu, California.

"I'm going to offer him something," Rivers said. "I don't want to say too much right now. I just know he'd be a great asset to any team."

The Clippers’ past deal with Prime Ticket ended in June.

Under the current terms, only current Prime Ticket customers would be allowed to stream the games.

Doc Rivers: DeAndre Jordan 'Seems Himself Now As A Star'

Sep 10, 2016 7:25 PM

Doc Rivers hopes the Olympic experience of DeAndre Jordan improves his game with the Clippers this season.

Jordan was a First Team All-NBA selection this past season.

“He sees himself now as a star,” Rivers said. “As good as he is, I don’t think he’s ever seen himself as one. He’s always been the third guy so he’s looked at himself as a role player in some ways. Now he knows how good he is and I think any time you’re around winning, it’s important, and I think DJ now knows what winning looks like.

“Of all our guys, I think he’s the most important guy this summer for us.”

Paul Pierce Still Undecided About Playing In 16-17

Sep 6, 2016 8:45 PM

Paul Pierce remains undecided about continuing his NBA career this season.

"Depends on the day I talk to him. Paul has had the summer, he's gone back and forth," Doc Rivers said while back in Boston to host the annual ABCD Hoops Dream fundraiser at TD Garden. "I think he has a right to do that. I really do.

"Paul didn't have the best year last year. I don't think he wants to go out that way. So I think that's why he's working to try to come back. But he still may change his mind next week. So we just have to wait. I told him if I see him at training camp, I'm assuming he's playing."

Pierce has two seasons and $7 million remaining on his contract with the Clippers.

Rivers believes Pierce should sign a one-day contract with the Boston Celtics when he does finally decide to retire.

Blake Griffin: I Didn't Deserve Summer Break

Sep 1, 2016 12:18 PM

Blake Griffin didn't take much time off this summer as he looks to bounce back from an injury-plagued season.

Griffin was a guest this week on J.J. Redick's podcast.

“I took a week off after I had surgery and then started rehab a week after that, and I’ve been going all the way through,” Griffin said. “I actually just got back from vacation, so I took a week off there, so basically two weeks (off) this whole summer. I kind of had in my mind, I’m just going to go all the way through. In my mind, I didn’t deserve a summer break.”
