The Los Angeles Clippers signed five free agents Friday, including former Arizona star Miles Simon, who averaged 23.3 points in 22 games for an Italian team last season.

Simon was with the Orlando Magic in the 1998-99 season.

The Clippers, who begin training camp Tuesday at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, Calif., also signed forwards Ansu Sesay, Harold Jamison and Obinna Ekezie and center Neil Edwards.

Lakers looking at add front court depth

Sep 21, 2001 10:28 AM

The LA Times reports that the Lakers would like to add front-court depth, and have not dismissed the possibility of signing veteran Sam Perkins, released by the Indiana Pacers. It is more likely, however, they would look elsewhere. Chris Dudley, Dickey Simpkins and Sean Marks are being considered, among others.

The LA Daily News says that the Lakers are evaluating a number of free-agent big men, among them former UCLA standout Jelani McCoy, former Chicago Bull Dickey Simpkins, 14-year veteran Chris Dudley and former Cal center Sean Marks.

The NBA on Thursday canceled all international exhibitions, including two Laker games in Tokyo and one Clipper game in Mexico City, because of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.

Laker officials are considering several options, but as of Thursday evening the team still intended to hold part of training camp at Honolulu, where it is scheduled to play the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 7. The Lakers also could hold the entire camp in El Segundo, a plan preferred by the players.

The two exhibition games against the Warriors will be made up, possibly by adding one game in Honolulu and the other at a site in California, or both in California.
