Jordan Believes Small-Market Teams Would Benefit From Hard Cap

Aug 18, 2011 12:33 PM

Michael Jordan spoke with the Herald Sun of Australia about the NBA's lockout.

"The model we've been operating under is broken. We have 22 or 23 teams losing money, (so) I think we have gotta come to some kind of understanding in this partnership that we have to realign," Jordan said.

"I can't say so much ... but I know the owners are not going to move off what we feel is very necessary for us to get a deal in place where we can co-exist as partners. We need a lot of financial support throughout the league as well as revenue sharing to keep this business afloat.

Jordan said small-market teams would benefit greatly from a "hard" salary cap.

Tyrus Thomas Using Lockout To Rehab Knee, Improve Mental Approcach

Aug 7, 2011 12:04 PM

Tyrus Thomas is seeing the lockout as an opportunity to improve his game and get healthy.

"I've been continuing a little rehab on my knee and now I'm back working out," said Thomas. "I've been really working on my mental approach to the game. I've done that by watching film, studying myself, and being more analytical, rather than spontaneous, in my everyday life."

Thomas is also working on his post game.

"Right now my biggest focus is a go-to move with my back to the basket," said Thomas.

Augustin Trying To Prove Himself To Bobcats

Aug 4, 2011 12:39 PM

After one season without Raymond Felton, the Bobcats are again pairing D.J. Augustin with a smaller guard by drafting Kemba Walker.

“I’m still trying to prove myself,’’ Augustin said. “That’s what it’s about. At every level you go to, you’ve got to keep proving yourself. That’s the hardest part about this sport we play. That’s the great part, too, because it’s competition. That’s what I love about it.

“I’ve played with guys my size all my life. At Texas, I played with A.J. Abrams. It the NBA, Raymond and me played a lot together. Pairing Walker and me might be a good advantage for us. Bigger guys can’t guard us. So it’s going to be fun.’’

Augustin played improved basketball when Paul Silas replaced Larry Brown.

“He’s a great motivator, and if you don’t feel like practicing or playing, he’s going to tell you,’’ Augustin said. “He’s a tough guy, but a loving coach. He looks at us like we’re his sons. He treats us that way with respect. He makes you want to play.’’
