Pacers Still Discussing Tinsley With Teams

Jan 29, 2009 7:24 PM

The trade deadline is roughly three weeks away, and the Pacers are still discussing point guard Jamaal Tinsley with teams.

Tinsley, who hasn't played since Feb. 5, 2008 in an Indiana loss to San Antonio, is under contract through the 2010-11 season at roughly $7 million per year.

"We are in conversations with teams as the deadline approaches," Pacers general manager David Morway told RealGM on Thursday night.

"Teams have asked about Jamaal, and we would, obviously, like to resolve the situation. You know, we have to figure something out that will work ... and we are hopeful that we'll be able to accomplish that at some point."

The Pacers placed Tinsley on the block well before the start of the season, but more than four months later he's still on their payroll.

"I know that Jamaal will be in good shape, and ready to play basketball," Morway added. "I think a new start will really be good for him and that he'll do very well."

Pacers Tout Granger's All-Star Credentials

Jan 26, 2009 9:47 AM

Pacers' president Larry Bird and coach Jim O'Brien recently sent out packets about forward Danny Granger to Eastern Conference coaches in hopes that they'll put him on the All-Star team.

"We wanted them to have information so that they would really look hard at what Danny has meant to the Indiana Pacers, along with every pertinent statistical category of things he has done this year," O'Brien said. "We're trying to do everything possible to make sure he gets the recognition he deserves."

Granger is fourth in the league in scoring. Voting for the reserves will be announced this Thursday.

Bird Has Lofty Goals For Granger

Jan 23, 2009 9:30 AM

Pacers' president Larry Bird has some lofty goals for star forward Danny Granger, which aren't limited to just making the All-Star team.

"I want Danny to make the All-Star team, but I'd rather see him represent our country in the next Olympics," Bird told the Associated Press. "That's what I want to see, and that's when you know you made it, because those are all the best players in the world."

Bird is hoping Granger will receive an invite to the 2012 Olympics in London.

"In the last year, just watching from the beginning of the season, it's all business, but at a higher level," Bird said. "I think Danny understands what it takes to get there, and I think he'll do it."

Granger is averaging 26.2 points per game, fourth in the NBA.

O'Neal Feels Strange Returning To Indiana

Jan 16, 2009 5:15 PM

Former Pacer forward Jermaine O'Neal arrived at Conseco Fieldhouse as a member of the visiting team for the first time since 2000 on Friday.

"I was looking around like it was a new arena," O'Neal said. "It's a little strange walking in a different way. It's great to be back. It's a little colder than what I would have expected."

O'Neal is unsure if he'll be able to play for the Raptors on Friday night because of an injured right knee.

"There's a chance," he said. "I have to make sure it's strong enough to play in the game. I would like to play."

Back Issue Shouldn't Limit Pacers' Ford

Jan 15, 2009 4:40 PM

T.J. Ford came off the bench for the Pacers in Wednesday night's overtime win over the Pistons but says that his sore lower back shouldn't be a season-long issue.

"It's getting there, but it's been a process," Ford said. "It's something I don't think is going to linger throughout the rest of the season. We're making steps and, hopefully, sometime I'll be 100 percent."

Injuries to Ford, Mike Dunleavy, and Marquis Daniels have kept coach Jim O'Brien from learning what kind of team he has in Indiana.

"You don't know what you have until you get everybody, if that ever happens," O'Brien said. "There's no guarantee any team in the NBA will ever get their full contingent of players healthy. When teams do and they have guys in the top eight for a number of your minutes, you can find out what you have."

Belinelli, Granger Share Words, Technicals

Jan 12, 2009 9:28 AM

Golden State guard Marco Belinelli left Sunday's win over Indiana with a sprained ankle but nearly got into a fight with forward Danny Granger in the second quarter.

Granger fouled Belinelli on the wing, and Marco responded by swinging his elbow. It didn't appear malicious, but the elbow caught Granger on the chin.

After a brief pause, Granger jumped in Belinelli's face. Both players drew technical fouls.

Pacers' Granger Hopes To Be All-Star

Jan 9, 2009 4:14 PM

Indiana forward Danny Granger has All-Star caliber numbers and admitted to the Indianapolis Star on Thursday that he definitely wants to make the Eastern squad.

"I'd be lying if I said making the All-Star team wasn't one of my goals when I first came into the NBA," Granger said. "I wanted to be an All-Star, but the main focus is making a playoff push and being a championship contender. Being an All-Star along the way is one step along the ultimate goal."

Granger is fifth in the NBA in scoring, averaging 25.8 points per game.

"If Danny Granger isn't an All-Star," Coach Jim O'Brien said, "then I don't know what an All-Star looks like."

Dunleavy Could Make Season Debut Wednesday

Jan 6, 2009 12:00 PM

Mike Dunleavy could make his season debut for the Pacers against the Suns on Wednesday night, assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks in practice on Tuesday.

"He's progressing well," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said before Monday's game at Denver. "He'll be restricted to a limit, but it will be great to have him in uniform for the first time this year."

Dunleavy is expected to see limited action upon his return.
