The Milwaukee Bucks expect to have to pay Jrue Holiday approximately $30 million per season on his next contract, sources told ESPN.

With the Bucks lacking young players of interest to the New Orleans Pelicans, they had to give control of their draft picks for the next five years. Over the course of the negotiations, the Bucks also reluctantly agreed to include George Hill.

Sources said the Bucks internally acknowledged the trade package was an overpay but that Holiday would improve Milwaukee's roster and also send a message to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Holiday will earn $25.4 million during the 20-21 season and has a player option for $26.3 million for 21-22 that he's expected to decline. Holiday will turn 31 in June.

The Atlanta Hawks also pursued a trade for Holiday, but abandoned the plan when they had reservations about his willingness to re-sign in 2021.

Milwaukee can extend Holiday beginning on February 26th to replace his player option and add up to three additional years.
