NCAA To Waive Standardized Test Scores For Incoming Freshman

Apr 18, 2020 1:23 AM

The NCAA announced that it will waive standardized test score requirements for incoming freshman due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students will be eligible to enroll in Division I colleges if they have over a 2.3 GPA in 10 NCAA-approved core courses.

"We are keenly aware of the educational disruptions and academic uncertainty that prospective student-athletes are experiencing. To that end, the Eligibility Center is committed to providing support and flexibility in application of initial-eligibility requirements as we remain nimble for additional issues we can't predict or forecast," said Felicia Martin, the vice president of the NCAA Eligibility Center.

The new change will only apply to students graduating this spring or summer, with students unable to take the SAT or ACT due to the pandemic.

Canceling Basketball Tournament Cost NCAA $375 Million

Apr 4, 2020 1:48 PM

Athletic directors are projecting a worst-case scenario of revenues decreasing 20% for the 2020-21 season, according to a survey of more than 100 athletic directors from FBS schools.

Athletic directors stated that their three biggest concerns for athletes over the next several months included academic progress, mental health, and a lack of resources while off campus.

The cancellation of the DI men's basketball tournament cost the NCAA $375 million it was set to redistribute to member schools.

Iowa State recently announced a one-year, temporary pay reduction for its coaches and staff to offset the $5 million in lost revenue from the basketball tournament.

Power 5 schools generate $120 million in revenue per year, according to Matt Balvanz, the senior vice president for analytics for Navigate. $100 million of that amount is generated through football, with schools averaging $14 million per home game.
