Juwan Howard Says Topic Of Returning Final Four Banners Is 'On The Table'

May 31, 2019 1:51 AM

Juwan Howard said there would be a discussion on potentially bringing back Michigan's Final Four banners from the 1992 and 1993 seasons.

Howard was part of the Fab Five era that lead Michigan to back-to-back NCAA championship games.

NCAA sanctions forced Michigan to vacate victories from the two seasons, leading to the removal of the banners.

"We worked extremely hard. We sacrificed a lot, went through a ton of adversity, earned every minute of it. That is something on the table that we as [an athletic department staff] will definitely revisit. We're not making any promises. That's all I can say at this moment," responded Howard when asked about the topic during his introductory press conference as Michigan head coach.

Jimmy King, a member of the Fab Five, attended Howard's introduction and said that there would be no more hard feelings between the former teammates.

"We're not bringing any beef or drama here, anything that would distract from Juwan doing his best job here. Immediately, it's over. We will be here this year."

Jalen Rose: Juwan Howard Hire Heals Fab Five Wounds At Michigan

May 24, 2019 1:21 AM

Jalen Rose said that Juwan Howard's hiring as Michigan coach would resolve longstanding tension within the Fab Five, specifically between him and Chris Webber.

"There will be no splintering. There will be no disrespect. It's about following Juwan as the leader of the program," said Rose.

Rose added that he has no more "beef" with Webber, with the fracture of their relationship stemming from the fallout of a financial scandal during the Fab Five era.

Webber agreed with Rose, adding that Howard's hire "would bring everyone back together."

NCAA Comittee Proposes Moving 3-Point Line To International Basketball Distance

May 12, 2019 12:35 PM

The NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee has proposed moving the 3-point line to the international basketball distance.

The current college line is 20 feet and 9 inches. The international standard is 22 feet and 1¾ inches.

If passed by June 5th, the new rule would go into effect next season at the Division 1 level.

"The time is right because it gets college guys close to the NBA line. The shooting has improved enough that moving back is warranted. The line back will create better spacing and help with freedom of movement," said Villanova coach Jay Wright.

Federal Jury Convicts Christian Dawkins, Merl Code In College Basketball Trial

May 9, 2019 2:36 AM

Agent Christian Dawkins and former Adidas consultant Merl Code were convicted by a federal jury for their role in a college basketball bribing scandal.

Dawkins was found guilty of bribery and conspiracy to commit bribery, while Code was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery. They were facing charges related to influencing players to sign with Dawkins' sports management company and certain financial advisers after they turned pro.

They will be sentenced at a further date.

Dawkins said that he could have identified coaches who were willing to funnel money up to top players, but chose not to cooperate with authorities.

"He could have brought the whole world of college athletics to its knees and he chose not to. He was asked repeatedly by the government to cooperate. He said, 'I'm not going to give you the names of 15 to 20 coaches.' Today he leaves this courthouse winning four of six [counts]," said Dawkins' lawyer.
