Self Thinks Perry Ellis Could Lead Jayhawks In Scoring

Sep 3, 2013 11:39 PM

Bill Self thinks there’s a great chance that Perry Ellis will lead the Kansas Jayhawks in scoring this season.

Self was asked whether the Ellis might be a forgotten man due to the arrivals of Andrew Wiggins and Wayne Selden.

“He’s not with our guys,” Self said. “I think there will be a great chance Perry could lead us in scoring. He’s improved so much. You said ‘Wiggins and Selden’ but trust me, (Conner) Frankamp, (Joel) Embiid, (Brannen) Greene, (Tarik) Black and (Frank) Mason, those guys are good players, too. It was a nice recruiting class and one in which Andrew I think was the cherry on the top so to speak. Those other guys are really good players. They’re just young.

“They’re going to be young and will probably make a lot of mistakes. We’ve got to figure out how to close games, obviously. Perry will be a big reason why we have a chance to be pretty good, especially early in the season, because we’re going to lean on him. Even though he’s not experienced he’s more experienced than anybody we have.”

Ellis is the Jayhawks' top returning scorer after averaging 5.8 points in 13.5 minutes a game as a freshman.

Sep 2, 2013 12:25 PM

Noah Vonleh has added 25 pounds of muscle this summer to elevate his weight from 215 pounds to 240 pounds.

Vonleh is an incoming freshman at Indiana that Tom Crean hopes will help replace Cody Zeller and Christian Watford in the frontcourt.

“A lot of guys I played high school basketball and camps with were saying I got a lot bigger and a lot stronger, this and that,” Vonleh said to Inside the Hall. “I just feel like I’m continuing to get better.”
